this is an idea I have had for a while, and am wondering what sort of reception it would get here in sheff...

The dream is to hire a (large) function room and invite people of all political ideologies to come and either discuss or just listen to what people have to say

it would probably be called "listen" with the only preresequite being that you are prepared to come, sit and discuss/listen peacefully and with an open mind.

I think it would probably work on a "ring this number for an invite" system, where you ring, give your name political angle reason for being there etc. in the hope that it wouldnt get hijacked by anybody with a major agenda.

I'm assuming it'd need some sort of security too if it got large...as extremists like places like that to try and take over.
(Maybe I'm being paranoid/pessemistic?)

Any sort of opinions on the idea and such ?

Would be very interesting but I kind of don’t see the point when something like this forum offers pretty much the same thing but without any of the hassle you talk about.

What an interesting idea - part of me thinks that the online side of things provides that but part of me is very keen on the 'Rule of Two Feet' approach to such sessions - whoever comes are the right people and whatever is said is what should be said.

I hope one day to organise similar sessions but smaller in scale and more focussed, but that's currently just on my list of stuff for the future.

I think you're right to be a little concerned about entryism - there are headbangers of all persuasions nowadays with their agendas to avoid.

Excellent idea - will be interested to see how it goes.

Hmmm...didn't Vlad the Impaler try something similar with the local peasants?

Only he locked them in then burned the bulding down :suspect:
