Has the defenition of a dirty old man cahnged over the last few decades or so? It seems to me that it has and that it has been broadened out to include many people who at one time it would not have.

Don't know, but I think I have matured with age and have now passed all theory exams in being a dirty old man.Sadly my practical experience is lacking due to the scarcity of suitable volunteers to help me further my education. ??

Peeping Toms - don't hear much about those now, it's probably because people can see it in the open in car parks if they wish - pathetic

You are pretty unique that's for sure.

Define dirty old man?

Well we are all unique. I would say to me a dirty old man has to be a least 80/85 and have dirty clothes and poor hygene. pretty much a tramp or not far removed from one. Nobody in this day and age can really be called old at under 80 or even 90.

I used to be a Dirty Old Man and I am still a D.O.M. Actually, I still have the old macintosh, binoculars, magazines and rubber doll that came in so handy [ and I mean 'handy' ! ] all those years ago. I have had to slow down of late, owing to arthritis and failing eyesight. The eyesight is a real problem and no mistake ; last week I sidled up to somebody in Tesco and murmured, " Fancy a bit of leg over ? "
and to my horror ' she ' was a 21 stone, aggressive hod carrier from Rotherham. In fact, I 'm thinking of packing it all in.

So, you are referring to a an unkept man as opposed to a pervert?

Maybe you need to take a further examination at the Central University Neepsend Tip Site, which was detailed fairly extensively on this thread:

Maybe you could ask on that thread.

Do dirty old men have the same perception issues as policemen and doctors? They all seem to look younger as we pass 30 ourselves.

A classic thread. Thank you for resurrecting it.

Dirty-old-man-ness is about character and behaviour rather than genuine old age or dirt. You can be a dirty old man at 55 if you have the right kind of personality.

No it could be either but a pervert is a pretty specific type of person. That is also another term that has been broadened over the years.

people say there is less prejudice now than in say the 1970s but in some areas there is actually more. Things that were not frowned upon then are frowned upon now.

Only to the person accusing. If you went online and flashed yer tackle you'd be labelled a perv. If Johnny Depp did it I'm sure he'd get a different label. Or even simpler...you'd still get called a perv if ya didn't...:hihi:

So in answer to the op...No. Only the perception.
