View Full Version : Does anyone know how I can restore the sound on my pc?

Not a techno wiz kid at all!
the sound has gone from my system & i have know idea how to restore it!! Can anyone help? :confused:

The first thing to do is to try restarting your PC. You would be suprised how often that works.

Failing that we will need more infomation :)
What operating system are you using?
Did the sound just 'go off' while you were using the PC?
Have you installed any new software or hardware recently?

Check the obvious things, have you just knocked a plug out of the wall or PC for the speakers, is the power light on etc....

:) thanks for that. I've checked all plugs etc. and have switched off several times. I use a compaq presario. As i say, don't know much about this sort of stuff! :loopy:

do you have the little speaker icon near the clock? .......if so double click to open, make sure nothings on mute or the sliders are down the bottom

then it looks like its start/control panel/sounds and audio devices .............make sure everythings tickety boo.

or

start/control panel/system/hardware/device manager and check things havent got ! or big red crosses through the sound stuff

go into control panel,click on sound & devices and look for audio it will tell you whats working and how you restore the item you want.

Looked through everything on there relating to the sound. My speakers are built in to the monitor & it seems that everything re sound is suggesting "sound devices". Remember, I know jack .... about this techno stuff. am i doomed to a world of silence??!! :loopy:

check the volumes up on the speakers / monitor? :)

Are you using Windows XP lab_lady? If so you can try a system restore and restore your computer to a point when the sound worked.
System Restore
Start ->All Programs ->Accessories ->System Tools ->System Restore.
Take it back to a time when you know the speakers were working.
