View Full Version : Coincidence or not?
Went to hospital the other day for an operation on my leg.The doctor who was operating came to talk to me ,he was born on the same day as me and had also just got back from a friends wedding in Cyprus as I have .
Is it just a coincidence or some strange astrological thing?:suspect:
Anyone else had strange coincidences?
Legs fine by the way:D
I tend to bump into old school mates and neighbours on holiday 1000's of miles away....it's weird, nearly every year I see someone I know in the same hotel or resort!!
That experience is quite strange though....was he available?? It could've been a sign???
:hihi:
Made me feel at ease about the operation:D
I also bump into people I know miles away from home :suspect:
I'm teaching in China and at the end of May I left the particular school I was at to go and work in another city.
On the last day , I wanted , specially , to say goodbye to a certain teacher who had been very helpful but , unfortunately she'd had to go somewhere for the school.
That evening I was on my way to an , "ex-Pats" bar to have a final fling before leaving. The city I was in was called Shijiazhuang and it has a population of about 5,000,000. Just as I was crossing the street to go in the bar , a voice shouted my name and , sure enough , it was my friend , the teacher. She was whizzing past on her bike. I had never , ever , seen any of the other teachers outside school and it sure made me think about co-incidences.
About 3 years ago in a holiday resort in Rumania , at Xmas , I bumped into a bloke in the hotel bar who had been brought up on the next road to me on the Woodthorpe in the 1940's !
There have been others too but not as obvious as the China and Romania examples.
Years ago my fathers steelworks accident which happened in the late 1940's was reported in a couple of columns in the Sheffield Star whiich my Mother cut out and saved.
On the back was a write up about a cricket match, I think at Bramall Lane, where the ball was hit out of the grounds and hit a passerby on the head.
In 1993/4 My son was a student at Newcastle University in New South Wales and this cricket case was included in his wifes coursework.
He had the piece of newspaper to prove it.

Berberis 24-06-2005, 15:08 OK gullible ladies. Just so you know, the "What school did you go to" and "where did you grow up" are lines used to get conversations going with someone you are trying to chat up, especially if you are just out for a one nighter!
Ive never used them myself, as im not that cheesey and my accent would give me away anyway!

Bit off track, not sure what you are getting at :loopy:
muddycoffee 24-06-2005, 17:27 Coincidences always seem more siginificant than they are especially if they occur across parameters which you are not expecting.
e.g. Sharing your birthday, there are only 365 possible birthdays, so the chances of meeting someone who shares yours is 365-1, most people don't go around discussing which day their birthday is, but it is quite easy to meet a hundred people in a month, and if you ask them all what their birthday is you have an evens chance of meeting someone who shares yours in only a few weeks.
Meeting people from home or your childhood abroad is much more likely than you might realise. Often the same popular destinations are aspired to by people who share the same or similar upbringing. And these flight routes are frequent and all this makes it more likely.
Only last week did I found out that my Aunt and Uncle spent a few days in prague this year after I did, and will be going for a stay in Barcelona, a week before I will, in July. These things are highly likely to happen because we share lots of intrests and ideas, and are of similar aspirations and upbringing.

Whilst my mathematical ablilities won't stretch to the statistics of meeting someone born on the same day and year as you I know its more than 365-1.
As neither me or the doctor had ever met anyone before.
Still found it quite comforting before the anesthetic kicked in:D
i was reunited with my best friend in florida, purely by chance
Don_Kiddick 24-06-2005, 21:49 My first day in the high school I was sat surveying the new faces in my form & spied a very pretty little dark haired girl  at first site  .
It quickly turned out NOT ONLY did we have the same surname but her DOB was same as mine too!
Coincidence? spooky.

I am talking date only, not date with year. I knew a lad at school who had exactly the same date and year as me, but again with over 300 children in my school year, then that is highly likely.
