Being an expat living in Perth Western Australia my 10 year old daughter wishes to find out more about sheffield. And I suggested that she starts her project with the City's coat of arms on the front cover. But up to know we have not had any joy in locating it. Does any one have any idea on where we could find it?
Thanks.

...while a google search for the Yorkshire coat of arms delivers this little gem:
A flea, a fly, a magpie an bacon flitch
Is t' Yorkshireman's coit-of arms.
An't reason they've chozzen theaze things soa rich
Is becoss they hev all special charms.
A flea will bite whoivver it can-
An soa' mi lads, will a Yorkshireman;
A fly will sup wi' Dick, Tom and Dan-
An soa i'gow will a Yorkshireman;
A magpie can talk for a terrible span-
An soa an' all, can a Yorkshireman;
A flitch is noa gooid whol* it's hung, ye'll agree-
No more is a Yorkshireman, doan't ye see.

LOL! That's hilarious!! Where did you get that from? I'm assuming it's not written by a yorkshire man?! :D
It may have been...
I first came across it back in the mid-1980s in a book titled Yorkshire Whys, Wherefores, Whats and Whens (I think) containing hundreds of unusual facts about England's greatest county! I won the book in a Radio Hallam roadshow in Firth Park that year but have since misplaced my copy :(
It may have been this book, I'm not sure:

I can remember wearing the Sheffield coat of arms on my school blazer pocket.
The school was High Storrs. I am not sure if this is used exclusively to this school.
Was it worn by anyone else?

Sorry this is resurrecting an old thread, but as an old-girl of High Storrs, this comment stirred something in me. (either that or I'm about to start with galloping indigestion LOL)
I believe (IIRC) the coat of arms is on the School badge because the school used to be Sheffield Central Grammar School, which was in the old education buildings on Leopold Street, before the ringinglow road site was built in the 1930's and the central school was transferred out there.
