Note If you have issues with The Corporation, then I suggest you take it up with the Magistrates / Police / Licensing Authorities. If you post unsubstantiated allegations here then they may very well get removed because they're likely to get us into legal hot water. If you have an issue with thread removal, use Contact Us and we will try and resolve it or explain it. And goldenfleece, bellowing 'Mods' at the top of your voice won't get things noticed any faster. Joe It would have been helpful to publish this notice BEFORE I had to ask you about it...simply removing threads without notice or explanation is rediculous.....this is a forum for free speech and no nightclub is going to sue a forum!!!!! JoeP 24-06-2005, 02:00 PM I haven't yet checked the Contact Us list, so if you have used that to contact us, I apologise in advance. However, if you didn't use that option, please do so in future as it gets to us faster than just posting here and hoping. And as we have had threats of legal action on numerous occasions in the past after postings have been made, people obviously do make attempts to sue a Forum. As the risk is not yours to take, it's perhaps not something you can comment on unless you wish to foot any legal bills. Joe neeeeeeeeeek 24-06-2005, 02:09 PM Come on goldenfleece, we all know you have an on going vendetta with Corporation night club, perhaps the mods are as bored as everyone else about you going on about it. Would you hate the place so much if they had not banned you for life??? Get a grip, move on... Would you hate the place so much if they had not banned you for life??? Get a grip, move on... Can I point out I did not start the original thread here, just posted on it. Its other people who began this...not me.... And since I have only ever been to the Corp 8 times in the last 7 years, yes 8 times only, I hardly think being banned is going to make much an impact in my nightlife, so being banned is irrelevant. Edd 24-06-2005, 02:47 PM Originally posted by goldenfleece but surely by definition, a FORUM is a place for people to come together and express opinions....FREELY? By definition a forum (in the computing sense) is a discussion group dedicated to the exchange of information and opinions on a particular topic. (Source: OED) Theres nothing in the definition about freedom. Some forums are genuinely free and unmoderated and some (like sheffieldForum) execise editorial control (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1404) over the posts appearing on their site....theres no secret there...so it shouldnt come as a surprise... Why not just make your own website stating your objections to Corp. *shrug* It can be as free as you like then. jake 24-06-2005, 03:31 PM Originally posted by goldenfleece Can I point out I did not start the original thread here, just posted on it. I seem to remember a thread about you dressing up to sneak in there... Its a fine line between love & hate... ;) robbie 25-06-2005, 12:32 AM Originally posted by goldenfleece MODERATORS....What the hell are you playing at? no offence but get off your soapbox. WE ALL KNOW YOU WERE BANNED DaBouncer 25-06-2005, 12:37 AM Goldenfleece the moderators on this here forum have a habit of removing posts without explanation. It would even be courtious to advise the OP of the reason for removal when it happens even. However that doesn't take place. Shame really! carcrash 25-06-2005, 12:37 AM I'm a moderator on www.soundaloud.com which is a sheffield music website and that nearly got shut down by a local venue for letting a user put allegations onto their forums. Venues will act and they have a right to if it is effecting their business BoroughGal 25-06-2005, 12:40 AM Yeah, and design your own website, pay and maintain it yourself if you want free speech. It's a forum belonging to someone and if his rules say don't do it, don't do it. Cyclone 25-06-2005, 12:44 AM a recent case has been in the news. Gary Lineker sued by some footballer for comments made in a national newspaper. Note that it was the person who made the comments, not the publisher that was sued. An online forum carries even less burden for verifying that opinions and/or facts expressed by posters are accurate or true. Unfortunately Geoff would have to put up a lot of money to defend himself against legal action even it were clear that it would fail, any organisation that threatens to sue can thus force Geoff into moderating the forum. It's a shame really, but if you want to critisice the corporation i'd suggest you use usenet, no-one to sue but individuals then, and if you're confident that what you are saying is true, then you won't have a problem with that. |
