Hey,

I currently take my cats to Hallam Vets on Crookes, I was just wondering where you take your dogs? I have had one member of the forum recommend this same vet for my puppy and she said they were always good with her dog, but what do you think?
I need to get her booked in for her vaccinations as soon as I get her so was wondering where you thought was best?

Thanks,
Lottie

We take our old mog to the Hallam Vets on Holme Lane and we've never had a problem with them...they don't even charge for a check up if there's nothing wrong with the little b*gger.

Didn't realise that they don't charge Carmine! That's good of them!
We take our cats to the one on Crookes and they have always been great with them. I would never take the cats elsewhere but just wondered what they were like with dogs

When we had the dogs, Dad used to use the Vets on Eccleshall Road at first when we lived up Walkley, then he transferred to Holme Lane vets at Hillsborough when we moved up Stannington.

Yeah, the vet poked and prodded him the last time we were in there (he just loves it when they take his temperature...:hihi: ) and then said there was no charge.

I've never had the pleasure of owning a dog of any age, but the vets there seem to be professional and quite understanding.

Took my cat to Abbeymoor vets on Halifax Road for an X-Ray (she'd been hit by a car) and she came home with cat flu, which my other two cats caught and one of them died....

if your cats innoculations were up to date then this would not have been a problem. so not really the vets fault

Was VERY broke at the time and could'nt afford the innoculations. However I've learnt the lesson the hard way, and always make sure that their innoculations are up to date now.

was not saying you are a bad owner or anything just pointing out your talking about the cats catching cat flu from the vets which could lose them business when there really wasnt anything that could be done. there are sick cats in the vets all times.

We use the one on Halifax road and always found them to be very good.

Afew years ago we had to have one of our cats put down and they handled the situation very sensitively, they even sent us a letter the following week saying they were sorry about our loss and if we had any questions or worries to feel free to give them a call.

I don't blame the vets (and I do beat myself up quite a lot for having let that happen). I'm sure they won't lose any trade because of my post, as vets are full of sick animals cos that's what they are there for...

We use the one on Halifax rd. A few years ago someone gave us their dog and his claws were a bit long after years of running on a beach, I didn't want to cut them myself because of the vein that runs through, so we took him to the vet.

The young nurse did exactly what I feared doing, cut his claw too short, the poor sod squealed like a pig.

:(

Then the stated there would be no charge for this. Should hope not too.

The vets seem ok, just wasn't happy with the nurses.

We need to get our cats boosters. I don't think they've had any since their first ones and they're now 4 years old...

My dad's attitude is 'cats are semi-wild, therefore more hardy' :suspect:

Feel bad now! Must get them booked in! :(

in fact I'm gonna ring tonight or next week to get them booked in! It's getting them there, they won't sit in the same carry case anymore!

Anybody got a spare I can borrow?

I used to use the vets on London road at Highfields and never had any problems with them at all. I changed to the vets on Abbey Lane as it was closer to home and as my last dog had to be put to sleep at Highfields I still get a bit 'shaky' going past the place three years on.

String Ones look best with a nice tight pair of combats and well gelled hair.

I have always used Highfields on London Road for my cat.

Excellent, friendly practice, who are linked vets to the RSPCA and not too dear either.

Had a postcard today from them actually, reminding me that she is due for her annual boosters.

If I remember correctly from last year, it cost approx £30. Well worth it for peace of mind.

Unfortunately they then have to have the injections as if they were their first which makes them more pricey! I think you have to have two lots?

At least you should get a reminder card in future ;)

We use Beech House vets at High Green. The vets & receptionists are lovely. My cat had cat flu when just a kitten and he actually took her home and kept her overnight and gave her t.l.c & fed her liquidised food, I thought that was absolutely brilliant.
Also when we had to have our old dog and cats put to sleep they sent us a sympathy card which we thought was a nice touch.
Can't complain about them at all.

Yes, the first boosters are two injections over two weeks usually at a cost of £60 to £70 usually done as kittens. But most be repeated if the yearly boosters are missed.

The top up yearly boosters should be between £30 and £40.

Vaccinations are essential for inside/outside cats.

I highly recommend Hallan Vets, they have two branches one on Holme Lane in Hillsborough (my branch) and one in Crookes.

The vets and nurses are friendly and professional and the prices very reasonable.

We use Hallam Vets and Holme Lane and always have. They are always excellent with our cats and dogs (we've taken sick hamsters, rats, other rodents and even fish there before!)

They are really good and its thanks to them that we still have one of our cats!

Best thing to do is have a set of questions and go in and see the receptionist and ask them.

I did this and asked things such as: cost of boosters, cost of kennel cough jab, cost of consulation fees, cost of frontline, cost of worming tablets, what do I do out of hours if its an emergency? what happens if the dog needs to be kept in overnight? Is there somebody on the premises with them all the time?

Then judge from the feel of the place and the anwers you recieved.

I did used to go to Hallam on Holme lane but felt that I was an inconvience to them and didn't feel the vets knew what they were talking about and the receptionist was very unfriendly. I then did the questionaire visiting a few local vets and settled on Abbeymoor on Halifax road. However, I know somebody who swears by Hallam vets, so it depends on what you think.

(Sorry about the spelling mistakes)
