Anybody know why it's so dark outside this morning? Are there rainclouds heading this way or something?

I think The Borg are coming...

But as well as that we always must be punished for a few days of glorious sunshine so yep, here comes the rain, thunder, lightning and colder climes - wat joy!
Still wish I was at Glastonbury tho, indulging in the mud fest in rubber!!!!

s of a b.
When i looked out the window at 6:30 it was clear and sunny.
So i've worn shorts and t shirt to work.

Halfway there, going up the M42 and I hit a huge thunderstorm.
Everyone in the office has been laughing at me

Some of us got the weather warning yesterday and while I felt far too hot for trousers I can see I'll be glad I did it!

:D Made me laugh! How annoying is it when that happens. I used to commute from about 2 hours away to Sheffield. The number of times I have got here and fellt silly in shorts and t-shirt when it started raining cats and dogs half way.

I nearly didn't bring a jacket to work at all but luckily my partner (who incidentally always gets out of bed later than me - you can tell I don't begrudge her that ) told me it was going to rain so I brought a golf pullover with me! Glad I did now!

Just read this on sky news website... makes it sound like the "day after tomorrow" (runs to gather firewood and wooly blankets.....)

PA WeatherCentre assistant manager Paul Knightly said the storms were likely to bring lightning and hailstones up to the size of golf balls.

"Winds in the upper atmosphere will be fairly strong, and this will promote the development of some severe thunderstorms.

"These may bring hailstones up to the size of golf balls, wind gusts up to 65 mph, extremely heavy rainfall leading to local flash flooding, and possibly isolated tornadoes.

"People should remember that with any thunderstorm, the main threat is cloud to ground lightning, and tomorrow's storms are likely to be very electrically active.

"If a storm approaches, try to get indoors quickly, and do not stand under trees."

The Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO), which is a privately funded group researching extreme weather phenomenon, predicted possible tornados.

Wish I was flying today.

Watching an electrical storm at night over the Alps - from above - was one of the awe-inspriring things I've ever seen.

Being half-cut helped as well

Last week's electric storm over Hathersage was an especially brilliant one. It appears that lightning fried all the fish in the pond of my mate's neighbour. Chips, anyone?

At least my rainwater tank will be full now. :) It was nearing the point where I would've had to top it up from the mains.

I've just been in the bank in Broomhill and listened to an elderly lady saying how much better today's weather is.

What is wrong with people in this country? A couple of days of warm sunny weather (followed by 11 months of miserable rain) and yet everyone's moaning about it being too hot!

Ke?

Scorching heatwave through to October?

Bring it on.

Mum told me there had been tornados in Birmingham and somewhere else in England? I did a search here on the SF but no mentioned of that yet. I went to BBCs website and nothing there either. Apparently noone killed but many hurt. What's going on with the weather? Winds up to 130 mph ripping roofs off is not a common occurance in Engand.

The Tornado Research Organisation website says:

"On average, 33 tornadoes are reported each year in the United Kingdom ... When land areas are taken into account, the United Kingdom actually has the highest frequency of reported tornadoes per unit area in the world."

Emphasis on the "reported", and the UK ones are relatively mild, though still bad enough - e.g. the Birmingham one was rated 3 or 4 on their scale, which goes up to 10.

Thanks cgksheff and CaptainSwing. The BBC news article must have been posted after I searched the uk news section this morning. I do admit though that I skimmed through the Sheffield Tornado Campaign thread and thought is was all about something else. I started to read "Sheffield council.. " and then switched off and clicked out.
