I had never watched star wars, I think that it must have passed me by or something. Anyway I couple of weeks ago I started to watch the 1st episode, now I have become addicted! Its amazing, I am on episode 5 now after watching them all in order.
I can't put my finger on it, what makes star wars so good!

Probably the fact that Lucas drew upon myths and themes that are older as civilisation itself and came up with a film that told the story without wading in pomposity and CGI...then he waited 20 years and made the sequels...:(

I guess im one of the minority who dont actually like Star Wars whatsoever.

I can see why people would like it, but it just doesnt appeal to me personally.

Technically they're prequels made as sequels.:)

Now I'm confused :loopy:

Episode 4,5 and 6 were good.

I don't care much for 1 and 2, and I won't go out of my way to watch 3

It's far better than 1&2, but it's still not up to par with 4,5&6.

You're not alone! It all passed me by as a kid, but when I watched the (original) first film I was hugely disappointed and still can't work out what the fuss is about. I was bored stiff by it - what little plot there was in the film could have been done in about 20 minutes!

And as for the three new films - I don't believe for a second that Lucas always planned them - if he did, why didn't he make them first? Methinks the lure of the money was too much!

I have to agree there, I think what he had was a vague idea of the backstory to the more exciting story of the original films.

When it came to making them there was so much baggage after twenty years of sin-offs, cartoon series, novels, comics and games that the whole thing became like a lumbering and very sick pig!"

PS: Anyone else think that Lucas looks moer and more like Jabba the Hutt every passing year?

star wars 1 2 and 3 i found kinda cool and different, as i only saw the old 1s as a kid, and i found them cool and also a little bit weird, but i jus dont think they they thought it out aswell as they did when they made the 1st ones..

Star Wars is escapism at it's best! when your not in the mood for intense drama or horror or comedy etc . . you can put Star Wars on - relax, sit back and be lost somewhere in the galaxy for as long as you like.

It has elements of drama, horror and comedy but it can be watched and loved by both adults and children without going over the top.

The story is a simple one but it's been done so well that you end up loving it. I personally think episode 1,2 and 3 are great and cannot understand why people compare them to 4,5 and 6 all the time! just watch it and enjoy it and lose yourself . . . . . it's simply great entertainment.

i can be corrected on this - but i believe that he wrote all of them together and went to the studio with all 6. They told him that they were not prepared to commit to making all 6, for obvious reasons, but they would make one and then the rest if that did well.

Lucas decided to make what he thought was the best/most commercially viable one and so made episode four first. it obviously did very well and so went on to make the others. he couldn't very well go back to the begining tho so he just carried on from there.

This may be true of the latest films, but remember Episode IV's success was largely down to word of mouth.
