I am sure there will be a few ideas if you ask in the Parenting Group.

Good luck with the new arrival.

By the way, sex worked for me!

Is it your first pregnancy? Firstborns are often a bit late. A combination of things worked for me to induce the labour: the midwife doing a 'cervical sweep' (not as bad as it sounds!) - your midwife will probably offer this to you if the baby is over a week overdue. Also acupuncture and sex (not together) did the trick! I think the curry thing is a myth, but my baby was probably used to spicy food by then!

Both my sisters had castor oil and within 24hrs they were both in labour. However, it only seems to work when you are so many weeks gone. Look it up online and see what you think.

Can I recommend starting something which will take you several days to finish? Remove all the wallpaper in your living room, empty big cupboards, that sort of thing. Sod's law says you'll be in labour before the job is done!
I got to 41+6, the day i went into Labour I had been shopping all day in Meadowhall! I did try to go into labour in M&S to see if it was true about them giving you loads of stuff if you do....but it didn't work lol!
Good luck x

I went a week overdue with my eldest child and got really fed up. the midwife told me to have a warm bath and a big slug of castor oil (or a curry). It worked 3 hours later I was in labour

I had a 'sweep' by the MW at 41wks and labour started the day after.. not sure if there was a link as when she did it she said my cervix was closed tight?!?!

Does your MW offer these? Sounds daft but I wondered how you would go about giving yourself one haha!!!!

Sex, if it's an option?

I still don't believe curries, pineapple etc. has any effect, but I might be wrong. x

Sex worked for me but I think the best way to induce labour is to relax - have a nice long soak in the bath and some choccies....

it is possible to give your self a sweep but it would be very difficult as you have to find the cervix which can be a task even for midwives if it is posterior. how ever any fertling around by you or some one else can help and it does help if sperm is involved as it has the ingredient in that induces labour-prostaglandin.

I reckon you are... I had a sweep on a saturday about 12 and was in the first stage of labour the following morning like you, but as it was my first time I wasn't sure. Had tightenings and backache and it took HOURS for them to feel painful enough to go to hosp and even then I was only 1cm dilated and sent home, they got really bad in the early hours then about 18hrs or so after I noticed them starting.

Good Luck, look forward to some good news soon! x
