hey huggybabe, first of all im sorry for the loss of muggles. i've had a look about and i found the following information on this website:-
http://www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm

"If your guinea pig is depressed, give him or her a bit of time. Maybe a week or two. Be sure and spend extra time and lavish more attention on your guinea pig. Maybe they will come around and be okay after they go through their mourning period.
Another reason to wait before getting a new friend is so that they really understand that their old friend is truly gone. Giving them some time alone may help them appreciate a new friend a bit more.
If you are planning on getting a new friend and your current guinea pig is very depressed and it's health is suffering, probably the sooner the better on getting a new friend."

i hope this helps some what but unfortunately it seems to vary so much from one pig to another how they will react to their companion departing

:( thats very sad, i've just read that piggies can mourn for upto 3 months if they have always lived as a pair but can be introduced gradually to a new pig. it just depends how you feel about it really, its a loss for you and missy.
apparently some pet stores will let you take your pig along and see how it interacts with others to see if it has a chance of bonding again before you buy one, then at least you dont run the risk of buying a new one and having to keep them both seperate.
i hope this helps and remember your pig will respond to your attention so dont feel you are letting her down by not getting her another mate, so long as she starts eating then she will be fine :)

Pets grieve, just like people do. I wouldn't imagine that immediately getting another pig would fool Missy into thinking nothing has happened.

Give her some extra fuss and attention, she knows you so she'll probably find that more comforting that suddenly being faced with a stranger to cope with.

And be kind to yourself, too. It's hard when you a lose a pet, don't try and rush yourself into getting another until you feel Missy and you are both ready.

thank you dozy i think we are both feeling a bit lost at the moment,

missy is'nt the kind of pig that likes to be fussed an cuddled she was happy to be with muggles. although she did let me cuddle her when we got back from the vets so that was nice maybe she knew .

thank you all for being so nice :)

Huggybabe, I would advise you get her paired up as soon as, if she stops eating the digestive system gives up very quickly.

I have some ladies looking for homes, or if I ak too far I can put you in touch with another rescue closer possibly

do you have any pics ?

also so im not wasting anyones time i think she would have to be short haired as muggles was a sheltie, and i dont think i could get another sheltie silly i know.
i like the teddy/rex ones .

like i say im not sure as yet what to do missy ate her veggies an treats last night mostly all gone this morning so thats great news.

I have a choc and cream little girl, she's a lakeland, so a sort of bad rex :hihi: she's 7 months old and has never grown since I've had her (poor diet I suspect from a previous owner)

I can get you a photo later if you like :)

Fudge is a funny little thing, she's submissive when she needs to be, she hasn't a bullying bone in her body.

She's been over looked so many times with being so tiny bless her

So sorry to hear about muggles , there is nothing so helpless as a poorly piggie, I hope that you and Missy are feeling a little better real soon.

Fudge looks gorgeous and isn't she tiny bless her, I am sure that she and Missy could become really good pals, and muggles would have never liked her little mate being sad I'm sure :)

isnt fudge just adorable i think they will be best friends im just going to wait a couple of weeks before i get her just so i know im doing the right thing. nothing worse than rushing into it. i think its a good thing for missy to mourn muggles as well.

Yes wait a little while until you feel less upset, but don't wait too long perhaps a tiny little piggie that needs a good loving home to call her own is just what you all need to cheer you up :)
