View Full Version : Wednesday still leaking goals.

I'm a little concerned about Wednesday's inability to keep a clean sheet.
Considering we've got 'good' players at the back, the number of clean sheets is very low.
Is it basic mistake after basic mistake, just a lack of experience within the back four, lack of help from 'certain quarters' of the midfield or is it down to the coaching?

I think its got a lot to do with being skint (at the mo), if we could say spend 10 million quid aswell as use the players which we already have then im sure the goals would stop leaking as bad.

Yet again, we fail to keep 'em out, but Donny did give us a footballing lesson, and it could have been a lot worse. :(
Not for the first time this season.

I tell you something, for the Donny goal Sat it was dire defending. Had Heffernan not headed in, the player behind him most certainly would. You can't leave two players alone like that and expect to come away with a result,

Heffernan had already missed an absolute sitter.
Was given stick over it, and made no mistake with his second chance; hence his reaction to the fans who had just told him he was effin useless.

Midfield is too lightweight and gets overrun. O' Connor had been playing well, but has disappeared too often of late; and I'm not just singling him out. Potter and him are too similar. Fine at home against Charlton, it worked; but away is different.

Luke Boden played really well and got stuck in , in a central midfield holding role at Ipswich, and with Watson sat alongside him it freed others up. But they have both been dropped, most unluckily and unfairly in Boden's case, because he also had a good game against Fulham once he'd realised after about twenrty minutes, that he had no need to be overawed by them or the occasion.

Is Michael Gray a left back or not?

If he played in that position, it might help stem the flow of goals against, because how ever much effort Tommy Spurr puts in and his atrributes, he gets taken apart far too often for my liking.

We are clearly hampered by the budget situation, but what we've got could also be used more efficiently.

at home we are fine -but for some reason away from home we are a different side (apart from the 2-1 win over the blunts)

It was a poor poor performance from SWFC, but the comedy value of that miss was probably just about worth the admission price alone.

Our defence is worrying me, I think that's at least the last 4 goals we've conceded in a row that have come from a high ball across the box. With the size of our centre backs we shouldn't be conceding goals like that.

The only difference between our first half performances at Doncaster and Reading, was the quality of the opposing strike force.

It wouldn't have been so funny if it had been Doyle left all on his own, on the end of that.

Your right about Tommy Spurr he doe's get left for dead on many occasions and looks awfully flat footed.

We are only really conceding goals away, and we have the second best defence at home! and recently our defending away has been a lot better!take away the shambolic defensive displays at, Wovles,Reading and Plymouth(14 goals in all!!) and our defensive record doesn`t look too bad!

The thing is though we havent been scoring that many away from home so letting a lot in and not scoring a lot is a recepie for disaster, thank god for our home form otherwise we'd be in deep crap.

Perhaps more by luck at times.
It was only Doncasters' terrible finishing At Hillsborough, that stopped them getting at least a point that day.

Must admit we could have done with a game against Plymouth now (instead of the having two against them when they were on form back in October) ........ but that would probbaly only serve to kick start their season now :).

Birmingham's equaliser two weeks ago was an exact replica of Phillips' winner for West Brom here last year. No lessons are being learnt.

Yes but if club's have these long stading problems in there team they usually hit the transfer market and solve the problem or at least try to.
Wednesday at this moment in time and for the last 10+ year's havent had that luxury so i suppose we have to settle for what we have got and get behind them.

We've got Michael Gray on loan. Why not use him to his strengths.

We've got Watson, so stick him in front of (not in) the back four. If he lasts an hour, play him for an hour. If he lasts longer, play him for longer.

The money Laws has been given hasn't exactly been used wisely, has it, if the signing of Jeffers is anything to go by!

I felt he should have signed Adam Bolder permanently, and a good quality defender in the summer woiuld have also been useful. He should be able to recongise one. He was one.

Millwall have now signed him permanently, so his wages couldn't have been the issue.

The amount of space we allow teams in our box is frightening.
As someone said earlier, with the height we've got in our defence, we shouldn't be letting so many headers in.
Pick yer men up, and attack the crosses .... simple.

To be honest i don't think Beevers would have broke into the Wednesday team at such a young age if we had the finance to get a more experianced defender in at the time.
Beever's is still very young and has a lot to learn yet.

The whole of the back four are still only kids, so we shouldn't be too hard on 'em, but they do need to learn a bit quicker, it does happen on a regular basis.
Yer right, a bit more experience wunt go amiss.
