I am having all sorts of probs lately. First, I have difficulty emailing out and attached pictures wont go at all. Then some of the other forums I go on I cant post anymore. Then theres the broadband speedchecker, I measure over 6 meg on download check but upload wont work at all.
I am on TalkTalk and use outlook for email.
Anybody got any ideas ?

I've been having the same problems with TalkTalk all week! Phoned them 3 times this week, gone through usual rigmerole but, it's still the same. I'm going to take my laptop into the computer shop where I bought it from to see if they can identify the problem.
My adsl has been blinking on and off all week, sometimes I can e-mail through Outlook Express then I can't access Internet Explorer.
We appear to have the same combination problems Outlook and Internet Explorer and it's TalkTalk. I have this probelm every few weeks with them.

Speed testers are generally very unreliable. If I run them I get results that vary from 2 -6 Mb and I have a 10Mb connection. I downloaded a new game using Steam and that is the first time I have seen the connection actually run at 10Mb.

Try changing the MTU settings .This usually helps. Read what Kitz says first.

Use this to get the recommended settings too. http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

Sometimes ISPs (especially those that use copper wire) restrict broadband speeds when accessing the internet. I think, that if you use a point-2-point connection, that they find it harder to restrict these than general browsing which is directed through a server.
EDIT: I find speedtest.net always gives me the same (my max) up and down speed but I have cable broadband not ADSL.

Many thanks for that howden, I'd begun to think it was just me as everytime I phone Talktalk they have no idea what's wrong!
Rather than use a speed test site, why dont you use this and download something from microsoft/bbc?

Interesting - the download speed I get from Dublin is twice as fast as the one from Maidenhead.
