View Full Version : Halifax and the Smoking person.
I was in Halifax last week and saw this guy smoking in a park, he had his kid in a pram next to him and all the smoke was going all over the child. It made me really angry to think that he couldn't just move the pram away.
Anyone else know ignorant smokers like these.
:hihi: More smoking threads....:heyhey:
I hate seeing people smoking in cars with the windows up and young kids in the back....complete lack of thought for them...
My neighbour smokes and his cat has got a realy nasty cough, I think i'ts cruel.

Let them keep smoking and take their kids off them...there again they get kids easier than their fags :D
:clap:I hate people who flick butts out the window of their car...they should have tons of fag ash tipped through their sunroof!
Can't we have a whole smoking section of the forum to debate these pertienent issues further?:D

Also agree - my hubby got a fag burn on his passenger seat from another driver who flicked his fag end out of his window but it landed in ours....what if we had a small baby in the passenger seat!!
Why not just ban prams instead - then he could smoke in peace, and no baby to injure.

or a bucket of petrol ?
beansfeast 22-06-2005, 16:43 I think all forms of fire and lighting equipment should be banned... smokers should still be allowed to buy fags though..

It may have a bright side. If a child grows up around that smell they may decide that it's so bad that they will never smoke. I know several people like this.

unless they become addicted to the smell, a bit like a child born to any other drug taker, they could be born hooked on nicotine :|

I would have though so, seeing as people have died from passive smoking.

I fail to see anything remotely positive about exposing a young child to an increased risk of asthma :|

Smoking is not an addiction it's a compulsive habit, the only substances that a person can possibly become physically addicted to are alcohol and heroin.
As a smoker I reckon it's wrong to smoke around kids, anyone who does is either irresponsible to the point of obscenity or a complete dullard for not knowing the dangers. I hold them in the same regard as women who smoke while pregnant.

So nicotine isn't physically addictive??
Swan_Vesta 23-06-2005, 08:40 Nope, the dependancy upon nicotine is only a mental one. It's just a habit like any other - granted, it's a son of a b*tch to break - but a habit nonetheless.
Meaning nicotine patches/gum etc are purely a placebo?
I'd be genuinely interested to see any sources, google seems to suggest the main sources against addiction being the tobacco manufacturers :) Whereas there are countless medical sources pointing the other way. Doesn't necessarily make it true of course, but as a scientist I tend to believe evidence rather than propaganda!
To my knowledge, nicotine is physically addictive, but only to the extent that if you go three weeks without a cigarette you're free of it. What's left after that is the mental obsession/compulsion, which obviously also needs plenty of work to overcome but is, in theory, easier.
This is from coming from a family where four relatives have stopped smoking and a fifth is about to do so. I had a look through some of their literature - so I'm only going on what someone else was 'claiming' to be the facts...
EDIT: Based on the above, nicotine patches/gum are not a good way of giving up, except the ones that slowly wean you down to a lesser amount of nicotine before you finally bite the bullet and stop using them. Sure, they stop you smoking, but you're still fulfilling your nicotine craving.
P.S. I'm the only one in my family who's never been a smoker.
