why don't you try the RSPCA - they're not free, but depending on the age -it should come pre-desexed and with all its shots.

Then you wont have to worry about extra expences later.

I think they may offer vouchers for spaying/neutering as well. Do remember though, even if you can get a kitten for free, they can be pretty expensive to look after e.g. vets bills (even routine jabs) not to mention cat food!
