I was told recently that there used to be vinegar factory and an army barracks at the top of wood lane, stannington. At a guess this would be possibly pre-war, would be interested in finding out more, anyone help, thanks.

There was a vinegar factory (vinegar works) at the top of Wood Lane, just up from Anvil Close. It closed in the early 1960's & the building was demolished.

Before the Marchwood Road estate was built circa 1960, there was a World War 2 gun emplacement on that site, which would probably have had some sort of barracks.

164th Stannington cubs and Boy Scouts used an old hut at the "Army Camp" as we called it in the 1950s and possibly early 60s before it was closed for housing. There was an AA battery there during the second world war.
