twibstix 11-02-2009, 15:10 Fraisthorpe Beach near Bridlington
Anderby Creek at Anderby Creek
Beach near Skegness, cant think of its name at the moment, next village away from Skegoles
Sellafield beach in Cumbria (bit far but WELL worth it)
Marske Beach near Redcar
Seaton Carew
Cleethorpes gets my vote for closeness and dogginess. Get down on the dunes they''ll love it and then the Leaky Boot for fish and chips.
Plain Talker 11-02-2009, 16:25 be warned, Star, that not all beaches permit dogs on them, particularly between spring and autumn.
There may be bye-laws prohibiting you from taking your dog there, and possible fines as a consequence.
sorry to sound like a killjoy, but I certainly know that Scarboro' and I think, Bridlington definitely have laws about it, and I suspect other beaches do, too.
Check, and Double-check before you go on the beach with your dog.
cavi lover 11-02-2009, 17:04 Just to say the beaches at Brid are open to dogs until 31st March.
After that the very north and the very south beaches allow dogs all year round. The south beach is very sandy and my gang of 5 love it.The north is more peebles and rock pools. 2 of my lad dogs are expert crab catchers! Not so pleasant the following day!!
To confirm Fraisthorpe Beach to the south of Brid is great too all year round. It is reported that naturists frequent this beach but we have never seen any!
We have a holiday home near Brid so use the beaches alot with the doggie gang,

Of the beaches I mentioned
Fraisthorpe def no
one near Skeg def no
Marske def no
Sellafield def no, and they can go for miles and miles and miles
seaton carew the bit in the town does not allow dogs but either end of town do all year round
Anderby Creek def no, very very little habitation round about - except a cafe which has been closed every time we go
twibstix 11-02-2009, 17:41 Another great beach is just above Berwick Upon Tweed, if you stay at the Beachcomber site (very basic but does have showers etc and is a working riding school too) you are literally out of your caravan/tent and straight onto the beach. From there you can walk (all along the beach) to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) and beyond as far down as Bamburgh. Just miles and miles of sand and again no restrictions and hardly any folk.
Hi Cavi Lover, we have also heard Fraisthorpe is a naturist beach but are still yet to meet any and we have been going for years. Me thinks you should let me and Dragon and our assortment stay at your gaffe then your 5 and our 12 (soon to be 13 as you just know Dragon will be keeping a baby Chase) can go play play play!!!

Too far for a day trip but as twibstix said the beaches in Northumberland are simply beautiful and they're all dog friendly all year round.

Wont take mine to Sandsend again, we went there last Feb and my (at the time) 7 month old cocker pup managed to get aspirated pneumonia as a result of the trip and came to within 1 hour of being pts as he took days to make enough of an improvement to be able to come home (taken into vets at 945pm on Sat and came out on the Tues, he was still very poorly for weeks). It is beautiful but has bad memories associated with it for me now!!
chin_wag 12-02-2009, 12:13 Sorry to hear about your pup twibstix. That must have been very traumatic for you both. :(
Hopefully it was nothing to do with Sandsend as we're going there again this year. We rent a house overlooking the beach and my nosy dog adores watching the world go by. :D

Oh I dont think it has, I think he aspirated some sand and/or salt water whilst he was haring round with the others (there were 21 dogs with us that day I think) and because he was so young it really bit back. It was an horrific week all round, 3 days before going we had to have one of the oldies (who Dragon bred) pts too.
He is super fit now, hares round like a maniac just about all the time, his tail never stops wagging he is the happiest chap, he works (on shoots) and does agility and flyball too, in fact his only fault is I paid for him and pay for his vets bills and insurance premiums and he decided to live with Nanny Dragon. We worked it out the other day, he has not stayed with me at my flat for a year (turncoat!!!).
slimsid2000 16-03-2009, 15:00 Many resorts will allow dogs on the non central part of the beach or during certain times of year (eg September - March).

What do you mean IF???? My postings are based on fact, in this case, us visiting with 12 dogs and 4 friends camping there with fluff knows how many dogs!!!!
Also, Tunstall beach near Withernsea is dog friendly - or rather was 2 weeks ago.
Wisd i'd read this at the weekend - i was heading for Whitby but as i don't know the area i was unsure of doggie friendly places for the"Boxer". Went to Chatsworth for the morning instead.
twibstix 16-03-2009, 15:10 Chatsworth woods are still a nice walk, and just about manageable with our crowd. See you tonight!!
See you tonight!!
Have you got your valium?

Scroll down a little. This may be of interest.
SpeedDemon 17-03-2009, 22:39 twibstix, what's the area like at anderby creek? Is there much to do, apart from the beach?
We went to blackpool last year, and while our GSD absolutely loved the sea, we found very few dog friendly places, and had to sit outside to eat (drying off the outside tables first lol)

Its the same in Northumbria, well some parts anyway. We went last year, and dogs are allowed on the beaches all year round as far as I know. It was lovely and the beaches are fab, but you're not allowed in any pubs with dogs. So unless you want to sit outside it makes it quite difficult to eat anywhere indoors. We asked in one place and they said it was the council by-laws, dogs are not allowed in any indoor eating places.

Anderby Creek is a pretty quiet place with not much there apart from caravan sites and a fish and chip shop. It does have a large beach though with plenty of space for a dog to run about. If you have a car it is not far from bigger resorts such as Skegness.

Yes, and No at the same time, depending on the time of year. Between September and March the beach is fully open to dogs, so long as you clean up any mess that your dog makes you'll be fine. But between March and September a whole new set of rules goes into effect, dogs are still allowed on the beach, but not inside a very specific area; the area that is off-limits to dogs runs 50m to the west of the beach access ramp, and 100 meters east of the beach access ramp. To get to an area that is around 50 meters west of the ramp you can use the pathway that goes over the dunes behind the public toilets on the large car park area, this is somewhat overgrown and not wheel-chair/pram friendly. To get to the area 100m east of the ramp you can go up onto the beach and follow the pathway along the front of the houses in the dunes, then go down the ramp at the end of the pathway near the large metal pipes that now stick out above the sand. To the right of those pipes is fair-game for dogs, but to the left is restricted. That route is wheel-chair and pram friendly, although you may need all-terrain wheels, or wide wheels to navigate the sand that sometimes accumulates due to the wind. [Return to the top]
we took our dog to filey beach a couple of weeks ago, he loved it
squeakyclean 19-03-2009, 21:32 Filey beach is great for dogs, although you are not allowed on the central beach, during summer months. We went last August & ours loved it.
dog love it on cleethorpes beach
is that an instruction or an observation?
Cayton Bay, Sandsend, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay, these are all beaches where dogs are allowed all year round, and some of the best kept secrets on the East Coast, so hush hush............. : )
Derby Pool :D The pub of the same name is a chain pub we've not ventured into though
Formby is somewhere we intend to revisit this year too - great sand hills, and enough of a walk to the beach from the carpark to put off your usual anti-dog car-clingons

You forgot Runswick Bay!!!!!
twibstix 20-03-2009, 22:32 Formby point is lovely, its National Trust though so they may well have their own limitations in season too. Plus if dogs or you stray onto the mud flaps, you will get loppy mucky.
Fleetwood beach near Blackpool is ok too.
knoxyovs9 22-03-2009, 09:42 cleethorpes beach near the yacht club is the best place to go anytime of the year as no1 goes up there and its a abandoned part as im frm grimsby i walked my dogs there alot .
