I've just seen this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/southyorkshire/content/articles/2005/06/17/live8_comp.shtml
You can win tickets to see Live8, which is pretty good as I sent loads of texts and had no joy!
Anyone manage to get a ticket?

Yes I've got tickets - 4 in fact. Both my wife and I got them. I sent 1 text, she sent 2
What I want to know is why did the BBC aply for these tickets if they didn't want to go themselves?
They only have them for self promotion and I'm sure all decent citizens will have no part in it. Sick.

dont mean to be nosy but whod u give the other 2 spare tickets to? u wunt want to give em me wud ya?:)
Hi Zamo,
Just spotted this whilst checking the thread in "Jobs Available" (about the Blast scheme).
The BBC didn't apply for tickets - the Live8 organisers gave a certain number to media organisations to be distributed in this way. It's a fairly standard way of publicising an event.
We make sure that anyone in South Yorkshire who wants to has a chance of winning them by turning it into a test of skill.
Good luck to you and Christine if you'd like to have a go.

We gave the spare tickets to our friends who live in London as a thankyou for putting us up for the night

Yeah, I know.
My post was a subtle dig at the forumers who expressed their outrage at people applying for tickets and then selling them on eBay (apparently depriving poor folk who really want to go of the opportunity to do so).
Sorry, I shall be less subtle with my p*ss taking in future! ;)
If you really want to go rather than buy the tickets off others why not consider one of the packages available in the 'Gold Circle'??
Two nights accommodation and a Gold Circle Live 8 ticket costs £349 per person at the Marriot Maida Vale or £389 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel.
Ticket-holders will have access to a Gold Circle hospitality area inside the Hyde Park site.
The first packages sold out within hours of being placed on an official website yesterday. More hotels will be added as the deals are snapped up. Big companies are seeking to buy-out Park Lane hotels, regardless of expense, for the ultimate Live 8 hospitality package.
