I heard this on the radio this morning coming to work. Is there still an Index near Orchard Square?

If so has anyone been and how good is the sale?

Take that wish back quick! You certainly don't want to venture into that store anymore... it's turned into a data inputting centre. :o

Last time I looked in there last week it was full of people just browsing catalogues and constantly entering numbers into the little machines... each time a little message popped up - 'Item no longer in stock'.
I dread to think what would happen to these people if they were interrupted...

You will probably be able to go there in the years to come and see the same people in the same places doing the same things but shrouded in cobwebs! ;)

Orchard Square is where the TK Maxx and Schuh shop is - around that area.

Going off-topic a little here but since hearing Index are to close I have been thinking that that shop could be an excellent location for someone like Cafe Nero. There is the covered area on the ground floor for out door seating and an upper balcony which again could be a seating area. In addition that corner of Orchard Sq is an afternoon sun trap and would be a pleasant area to sit and watch Sheffield flock by.

It might even attract more customers for the small businesses on the upper level of Orchard Sq.

er, there is already a place there fulfilling exactly that need! can't remember what it's called, but it's diagonally opposite index (i.e. right in the sun) and serves lovely food at very reasonable prices.. the wraps are lovely on a warm day, and as you say you can sit and watch a microcosm of sheffield drift in and out in the sun :)

I went into Index at Orchard Square a couple of weeks ago and it was more like a car boot sale. Just the last dreggs left on tables. Must be even worse now. My advice ? Steer clear !

That's true. And the above thought actually occured to me whilst drinking a pint of Old Speckled Hen in The Musuem's outside area. But The Museum, to state the obvious, is a pub and that is not necessarily what people want - they want Cappuccinos, Lattes and Espressos from cafés.

A café would probably complement the pub and possibly encourage the out of working hours use of the square - which is currently wastefully locked up from early evening at the Fargate entrance.

Anyway it is too hot to sit at my pc any longer - I am off for a pint.
