First of all I would like to say thank you to everyone who
has donated to Sheffield Samaritans over the last few
months.

Slowly, step by step we are getting to our target of not
having to close our doors.

But there is still a long way to go.

Which is why I was compelled to create a little website to
help raise money.

And I just need one minute of everyone's time, if I may.

The link to the site is below, but first, what we need you
to do (don't worry, it doesn't cost anything!!).

All you need to do to get the awareness that we need to
make the site successful and raise lots of money is to:

Copy and paste this into an email and send it to as many
friends as possible:

This is brilliant - I had to donate:

Simply that.

Sheffield Samaritans need money fast, and by emailing the
above two lines to as many people as possible, you will
have helped make a difference to our fundraising drive.

On a personal note, I have only been a volunteer since
September, but in that time have experienced the sheer
volume of people who are helped by the service, often at
the most desperate times in their lives.

Not just the people who phone up, or the hundreds that
email us, not even just the many face-to-face callers that
we help. But the many people who know that there is a
local branch there for them when they need it, even if
that time never comes.

I am actually leaving to go to university in September,
but I really want there to be a Sheffield Samaritans to
come back to and volunteer in during the holidays.

Please, copy and paste, or type out the two lines below
and email them to as many people as possible, so that we
can go on offering this vital service:

This isn't a plea for money, it's a plea for just a minute
of your time.

If you have a spare minute and could email the link to
everyone you know, that minute could make an amazing
difference.

Thank you very much for reading, I'll keep everyone
updated with how it is going.

PS Even if you don't have any spare money to donate,
please feel free to download a copy of the book for free -
you won't regret it!:

Hi Rob
That's a brilliant idea, I hope that your efforts are rewarded with lots of cash for Sheffield Samaritans who do a great job under difficult circumstances.

Ironically enough, you're dead right.

The whole idea is that it's written slightly like that (when you read the book you'll see why) - but you're right, it's putting people off before they even get to the book (and then they're not donating anyway).

The single aim is to give people a place to donate via Paypal - and I thought this might be a fun way to do it.

It's SO not worked (thanks to those who have donated though) - but I'm not going to give up.

For mini, the money is needed as we have been given notice to quit by our landlord so they can redevelop the site into luxury flats. We had enough money to purchase a terraced property down on Queens Road but diddly nowt to make it habitable. We are making progress but it's a long haul.
