View Full Version : Is it me...or are Sheffield Wednesday forgotten?

There's lots of evidence to support this. I know other people have brought this up as well, but I want to make the point heard.

Championship highlights on ITV Sunday.....after many less important matches. Possibly the biggest derby outside of the premiership and bigger than that of some in the premier league and its not near the start of the programme. The owls are never near the beginning of anything.

Sky sports hardly show Sheffield Wednesday, unless they play Birmingham, why show one Sheffield derby and not the other.

Big League Weekend Sky Sports.....nearly all of league 1 and 2 went before. not much discussion of a great match.

ITV Calendar.......not till the end did one of the biggest events in Sheffield get a mention.

I may be over reacting, and please say if I am...but does anyone else feel the same??

It's the same with the national press - the Mail especially.

Someone somewhere along the line at hillsborough (probably had a ducks arse haircut) must have really upset the media.

The derby is only big in Sheffield.

How interested are you, in say: Portsmouth v Southampton or Middlesborough v Sunderland?

I don't think it generates much interest in the rest of Yorkshire hence the crap coverage by Look L**ds etc.

Yeah but Big League Weekend Sky Sports bigged up their feature game as a Midlands derby - emphasis on derby. Between Wolves and Coventry. Hardly compares to a derby in the same city does it.

The BBC tend to forgot about Sheffield altogether, as does Sky News. It's only a little thing but when they scroll across with the weather for the UK's major towns on Sky News Sheffield isn't included! But the major conurbations such as "Middlesbrough" and "Southampton" are included...

I even had some guy come round the other week trying to get me to donate to charity for the people that suffered from the floods.... In Gloucestershire! I pointed out people died in Sheffield too, and he seemed oblivious

both Sheffield teams have always struggled media wise- hardly surprising when our city is covered by Look L***s and "the war of the monster trucks " YTV calendar.

no, your exactly right, its the little things which you notice more so. they all add up. leeds, york, newcastle, even doncaster probably get more mention on the weather. its a big shock if I hear the word sheffield on anything these days

as far as Championship highlights, I always thought they generally work down the table from top to bottom (apart from the main game)? Therefore as Owls are mid-table, it'd depend on the opponent where they'd be in the running order...

cant see what the problem is with football coverage. it only suits the armchair fans. when a game is televised the gates are down and the atmosphere of a big game suffers. cant beat watching live football.

i would of rather it been a beam back anyway for the utd game, only reason they did it was because it wasnt live. wish utd hame wasnt on sky but al least we got money from sky to make up for the lost fans

United didn't have to do it, the only people who benifited were wednesday and their fans. A good gesture by united I think.

A good gesture would have been to give us the whole of the Bramall Lane end - there were enough empty seats in your ground to move your fans out of that end for the Wednesday fans to have it all.

im not interested in the England games -never watch them, but your right about tv killing football. the money pumped in by tv is the reason players wages are obscene . there needs to be a salary cap introduced. tv has a lot to answer for .

I think TV right now is perhaps the only reason many clubs are even still in existence...

that was'nt possible as the official number of tkts left unsold was 500 as stated in saturday nights star. meaning nearly 4,000 blades upstairs would have had to sit 8 to a seat. the other empty seats were for segregation purposes to appease the intimidated wendy fans of last season.
but seeing as you did'nt even attempt to get one of the 3,000 tkts available to wendy season tkt holders i cant see why your concerned.

500 left over tickets - shameful considering all the talk about not giving us any because you could fill it yourself.

Anyway, as I said before, we tried for a ticket.

And I bet you £500 you can't prove I didn't.

so where do you suggest putting 500 extra wendy fans. to fill the empty seats. the way you kicked off over the "intimidation" last year
we'd have to have the army on stand by for you.

you may do. but the club you pretend to support need our money to keep you afloat.

4,000 missing blades at 23 a tkt will mean £92,000 less for a loan players 3 months wages. then theres programmes food an ale. a fiver per fan is another 20 grand. you need us there pal.

Our attendances are set to improve BB, the dark days are coming to an end. I wondered why so many blunts would want to attend a derby in a stadium that they constantly say is 'falling down', and if it doesn't fall down on you you could be drowned.

Just thinking of our duty of care to you, far better that you have a beamback to the safety of your far superior stadium. :hihi:

Noted some neat use of the elbow by Quinny, which he got away with.
