Has anyone seen a Sheffield edition of the Monopoly board game. Have seen many other regional versions but never a Sheffield version.
Have we been left out of this in favour of other cities as well.
Have found a liverpool edition, a manchester edition and even a Leeds university edition, but no sheffield.
Any ideas?

I have never seen a Sheffield version, though i'm not sure if our two football teams have tinkered with the idea. I only know that Meadowhall, the Blades and Wednesday have places on the Yorkshire Monopoly I think.

There used to be one quite a few years ago, I bought it for my brother when he was little, and he's 21 now, it was called SHEFFIELD SHARES, but it was practically the same as monopoly

I wonder what would go on a monopoly board of Sheffield today? I would suspect most of the squares would have on them 'under construction' or 'you may buy this square by means of a compulsary purchase order'

LMAO think half the squares would be "luxury student flats" or "now owned by Sheffield Hallam university" Would be quite cool to make my own version if could think of what all the squares should be.

There is one, definitely. I remember the Sheffield Star being on the board.

Wonder what the railway square would be like? Maybe there would just be a mural of what it was supposed to look like.

What do you reckon would be the most and least expensive streets. If anyone could find a copy I'd pay for one.

You could always buy the 'make your own ...opoly'

Name it yourself along with the titles and details.

I bought one for a friend, which will one day become 'Robopoly'

:P

There certainly wouldn't be a Free Parking Square. Instead of Go To Jail it would be Go Collect ASBO. Community Chest would become Lottery Funding.

The metal playing pieces would be:

A knife with Made in Korea etched on its side;
A Pay and Display Parking Meter;
A Set of Traffic Lights; and
A piece of pot-holed Tarmac.

The little red houses would come in groups of 60 and be known as City Living Apartments. The larger green hotels would be covered in scaffolding.

The Chance card would be renamed Discount and would entitle any beholder to a day's free shopping at one of Sheffield's many discount stores.

Finally, the object of the game wouldn't be to acquire property but to raise rents so high no-one else could afford them, to drive businesses out of the city centre to Meadowhall, to demolish decent buildings and replace them with junk and to create a dead city centre no-one could get to.

The winner of every game would be Sheffield City Council.

Debenhams do a 'make your own opoly'. I've bought one for my work place and one for my partner. It's good fun. £15 I think.

Make your own opoly? that sounds quite good. send one to the council with all the artist impressions of all the projects in Sheffield and say that can be a welcome pack to visitors so they know what it will look like in a few years :D

Problem is you would never get past Hillsborough corner as there would be too much traffic, but at least the derelict buildings will be cheap :D

We have - and still occasionally play - Sheffield Shares. It's not quite monopoly - you can't build on properties, you only buy shares, and there's a nasty stock market lottery element. But it's not bad.

We had to remove the chance card that said "someone tells you they are going to fill in the hole in the road and you fall for it. Pay a fine".

If you want to know more get back to me.

In a tribute to Sheffield's most sucessful retailing emporiums, every square would cost one pound.

This is as close to a Sheffield Monopoly (http://www.glasgowsurvival.co.uk/belters/chavopoly.jpg) as you'll get at the moment :hihi:

Went to 'The Deep' today and saw a Hull Monopoly. If they've got one, why haven't we? Can it be done under licence? Now where are the entrepaneurs amongst us?

Why not have a Forum Monopoly?
Instead of Go to Jail you could have Pedants Corner as punishment.
Pass go & collect a rebuff for not searching first.
collect any 3 of a colour & consider it a threads merged,
The water works could be a MOD-warning when they get the tear-on.

Your gamepiece is a wee model of your avatar & you can play as an individual or form a 'team' - or 'clique' - to gang up on individuals (especially new players).

I've got a version of the Yorkshire Monopoly, but afraid Sheffield can't have it's own because no property lasts long enough to be entitled to be on the board.

It would all have to be 'under construction' or 'about to be demolished' or 'Council's land we can do what the heck we like with it' or even - nice bit of land in the city centre - let's ruin it with a really ugly hotel on it.

I used to have a board game similar to monopoly called Sheffield Shares. Think it was brought out when we had the commonwealth games. It had the then unbuilt Meadowhall on it, Sheffield Star, Richardson's and Crystal Peaks as much as I can remember!

Think it was a promotional thing - not available in the shops, but someone must have a copy for sale somewhere. Best bet is to ask at the council or the tourist place near the winter gardens.

Hope that helps!

It probably would have done in June 2005 when it was posted.

Welcome to the Forum by the way. :hihi:

I used to have a Sheffield Shares Game years ago when I was a kid. God, I wish I had kept it.

It was ace and probably be valuable now.

I have just tried doing a search on net and cant seem to find a trace of it.

Anyone have any more info on this game?

Sheffield Shares can be spotted quite regularly round the local car boot sales.

I was under the impression that the politically correct lobby had forced the inventor to take Ghettopoly off the market.

Yer i got sheffield shares from ages ago, it's good but it's not monopoly.
the closest thing i've found is from firebox.com

direct link to it
firebox.com/index.html?dir=firebox&action=product&pid=1565&src_t=sbk&src_id=monopoly

it similar to make your own ....opoly but you do the process online then they print it and send it to you. i've seen make your own ...opoly, a mate had and you do it on your own pc then print it off and its a rectangle with squares missing.

(sorry there no url's i'm a new user (15 posts or more))

^^Yeah I read about that somewhere. (Can't remember where though)

They seem to have an odd selection of places;
London, Portsmouth, Brighton & Hove, Sheffield.

I might have to go have a look at it :-P.

Interesting, the game has apparently sold really well in Portsmouth (where the company is based), I found it quite funny that they've replaced 'where to guv' with 'where to luv'

Hillsborough?
Bramall Lane?
Meadowhall?

these are hardly the posh parts of Sheffield...

Pinstone Street
Riverside
Devonshire Quarter

these might be better placed on the dark blue space.

Maybe even Eccelsall. Where is property the most expensive in Sheffield?

Sheffield Monopoly now out at HMV and Debs at meadowhell. Looks crap with advertising logos on most squares.

Worth a laugh at but not at £25!

Could you not have taken in £25 worth of Zavvi vouchers, and insisted on taking a copy of it, basing this on SWFC being valued at £200 in equally worthless pieces of paper in the box?
