View Full Version : Bloodstock Open Air - 2009
leviathan13 09-02-2009, 12:29 So, after the disastrous football result at the weekend, I've been thinking more about not letting football fixtures stand in my way of going to Bloodstock this year. I like a couple of the bands, but not heard too much by most of those who have been confirmed already.
So, who will be going this year and can you try and persuade me to get my ticket before the football fixtures come out for next season?
I`m pretty sure we`ll be going, probably drive each day, like last year.
You don`t know what yer missing (well you probably do) matey, its a good festival!!
You know you`ll be kicking yerself if you don`t go again, cos you have to put up with people like me on here afterwards telling you how good it was.
Do you really want to have to listen to that??? lol

I know, I know! I put my bro's photo's from last year on my comp and seeing Akercocke ( my favourite black metal band), Alestorm, Iced Earth etc. has made me see how foolish I was!
That and my bro going on about how cool and awesome everyone was... well, it's time I went methinks!
You know you wanna!!!!!!:D
Powerage 10-02-2009, 10:03 Never understood people putting football before festivals I know several who used to not go to Donnington (when it was in August) because the new football season started. You have about 7 or 8 months of football but the festivals are one offs. Forget the footie music is much more important and fun:)

For me it's equal! Plus, it's a personal thing where I won't have (fingers crossed) missed a home game for four seasons.
But the pull of meeting weird and wacky Europeans and watching some quality metal bands is growing ever stronger.
RegularJohn 10-02-2009, 13:18 Im going this year and cant wait, only heard of a few of the bands so its going to be a learning experiance!

Same here. Although I do have aquaintances who know these bands and have stuff by them, so I'm going to metal school before I get my ticket.
leviathan13 16-02-2009, 16:03 Not wanting to sound too OTT, but would anyone fancy meeting up for a beer or two during the weekend? It'll be my first 3-dayer and don't fancy it being just my mate's faces that I have to look at! :hihi:
RegularJohn 17-02-2009, 13:37 not too sure bout a beer or two...if your up for a few more then two then im up for it aswell! Im quit looking forward to it even more now!
leviathan13 21-07-2009, 15:56 With just under a month to go, I thought I'd revive this thread.
Ok, so I decided to go - I've got my ticket, my brother decided to buy a new car for the occasion so going down in style and bought a brand new tent. The line up looks good in respect of there being a good few bands that I know and like, but also some that I'm not too fussed about so will be able to wander around without feeling too guilty about missing them.
Although I am missing one United game - it's only Watford so not too bad - I am really looking forward to it.
Can't wait!
paranoid 24-07-2009, 11:37 i'm going, just for the saturday though and coming home sunday morning

Awwww, that's a shame. How come you can't make it?
I am really looking forward to it. Not been camping in years and never for this long, so it is a tad daunting. Especially as I am a bit of a personal hygiene freak! :hihi:

oh dear :D
i go camping a few times a year in derbyshire etc but i've only ever camped at a festival once at download 2006... never again unless i could get in some sort of vip field. i don't know what it's like at bloodstock, but at download it was absolutely packed full of tents. the toilet block was disgusting and lads were just taking leaks on tents for some reason :suspect:

You`ll have a great time Leviathan, maybe next year we`ll hook up there??
You can meet my lot(the lads will drive you mad lol)
Can`t really afford to go this year cos we are saving for a trip to Australia, so festivals are taking a backseat till next year.

Australia? With all the deadly spiders?
No thanks - I'll stick to camping in Derbyshire, cheers!
leviathan13 17-08-2009, 15:25 All I can say is, it was an experience! :hihi:
My first ever full three day festival and I loved it. Some great bands, a good laugh with some good people and I came home relatively unscathed.
The bands I went to see were amazing and I loved every minute of them. I was pleasantly surprised by a number of others that I'd heard of but didn't really know anything by them and there were some cracking unsigned bands.
The nights were a bit of an eye-opener, but they haven't put me off going next year!
All in all, a thoroughly excellent weekend.
paranoid 17-08-2009, 15:29 yeah, i agree entirely. i was only there for the saturday (came home sunday morning) and it was brilliant
shame about the CoF incident :(

I'm not a fan of COF, so I went back to the tent. I didn't feel the need to throw things at a band on stage - I just simply left those to it who did want to see them. It was a bit saddening to see this happening at Bloodstock. It's what you'd expect at Download - but not there.
Fortunately it was the only incident on an otherwise trouble free weekend.

I didn't see it as I was back in the tent, but they got bottled of stage. One of them was hit in the head and had to go to hospital.

omg its not usually that sort of place.
Crayfish 17-08-2009, 21:42 Pity to hear that. I went to the indoor one a few years back and there was no sign of trouble to be found, very friendly atmosphere.

There was only the COF incident that marred it. Other than that it was awesome.
RegularJohn 18-08-2009, 11:49 Got back yesterday, had an amazing time, got there Wednesday and it was odd to see it all with no people!
Saw a total of 3 bands....Beholder twice and the mighty Europe! Yeah the guy From Cradle got caught in the ribs by one of those massive gob stoppers, shame really.
Met loads of cool people and had loads of fun...bring on next year!
paranoid 18-08-2009, 12:35 apparently, someone purchased a catapult from one of the stalls and started firing gobstoppers at the band. at first people said paul had been hit in the head, but as all the rumours are calming down it sounds like it hit him in the back
absolute idiots
