Ive just been having a dabble at the Championship league table and we have got a game in hand on a couple of teams in the top six which if we won that would mean that we would only be five points off, with Donny Barnsley Palace and Burnley in our next 4 game's who knows what might happen there all winnable games.
Its the beginning of Feb and weve still got an outside chance, i would have settled for that at the start of the season.:)

The pressure is off us compared to other teams, i said at the start of the season that we could put a few cats among pigeons and i wasn't wrong, taking six points off the Blades is always a brucie but weve had some decent results this season.
With Reading, Wolves, Preston, Swansea, QPR, Bristol City, and Cardiff still to play all who have realistic ambitions of the prem it could be a mouthwatering finish, even just stuffing a few clubs promotion campaigns up can be a laugh if owt else lol.

those games will give us an idea of what the team has achieved this season and what we can expect next year. Reading, wolves, swansea and cardiff all at home so they are definately winnable, we do well in these games then it sets us up for more to come next year. Need to show we can beat the top teams in the league

Id love to put one over on Reading in all fairness they gave us a real pasting at there place and seem to have gone off the boil lately while we seem to be hitting some sort of form.

I don't think we've got a chance of the play-offs, no. If Sodje was fit and playing, I might say yes. I think him and Tudgay up front will be a real threat. As it is, I don't think there's enough goals in the team to beat the better teams.

I think we must not do a united and start thinking we are best thing since slice bread just because we beat them last saturday. We need to keep our feet firmly on the ground and push on next season. But if we got in the play offs then that would be great and personnally I think we are punching above our wieght this season and if the season stopped now I would be very happy compared to last season.

Steady on old chap, let's not get carried away! We're an average team in an average league, but with a paper thin squad half of whom seem to be pretty injury prone. We've only won 2 of our last 9 league games, both against very poor sides!

I don't disagree that we have an outside chance, anybody does if they can put a run of results together, but realistically we're not quite good enough or consistent enough and we're exactly where I expected us to be in the league.

If we get the investment in we have a sound base to build on to make a realistic challenge in the next couple of years though, the tide is definitely turning.

we need about 70 points to make the playoffs....meaning from our remaining games we need 9 wins....and a handful of draws to be sure. we have only about 6 home games left..so if we win those 6 which is a real possiblilty taking our home form.....we need to win a few away which have been hard to come by this season. its a big ask....but we have had a few good results recently..........think about it....we are 8 points out now...if we had clung on at home to birmingham...that would be 6 points out....clung on away from ipswich we would be 4 points away. now that our squad is back lets be looking forward to manchester united next season!!!!!!!!!

at this stage of the season.....we need to win both really. the more wins the better. we probably also need some other results to go our way....such as cardiff and pigs losing on a regular basis.

Just a word of warning though, a couple of years back you had that great run at the end of the season, and just missed out on the playoffs, and many Owls were expecting you to take the step up last season and challenge...before losing the first six games.

There will be more expectation on a playoff place next season understandably - Laws has had a few years to stabilise the club, now he should be aiming next season for a minimum of challenging the top six really, as the money worries are easing.

To make the playoffs this year, you'll need to show consistency that's not been there all season, particularly away from home - if you can get that, then who knows...

Certainly will make for an interesting season next year (after a very dull one this season for us!).

To be fair though, IF Owls can keep their strongest side out for the majority of the season, and can play with the passion of the derby, then they do have a chance - it's maintaining that level of intensity and keeping the critical players (Wood, Gray, Tudgay) free of injury, and not having too many of the backup players in the team.

It's amazing how some wednesday fans have changed from "we are punching above our weight and mid table is good enough for us" to "play off chances" after winning just one game at bramall lane .

Its not just after 1 game at the Lane i can assure you, i for a while have thought how we seemed to have stayed just about within touching distance of the play offs, its nearly the middle of Febuary now and were not that far off.

Well done to the dingles, the enforced rest must've helped, and it's probably a good thing the game at the Lane is pushed back to April...!

Odd set of results in the derbies though - Owls double over United, Barnsley do double over Wednesday and Donny, United 1 up against Barnsley with 1 to go having won at least last 3 against them... and Donny share the spoils with the Sheffield clubs. Not a single draw in the 11 derbies so far...

About 8 clubs have got a chance of the playoffs, including Wednesday.
Why not?
They would have to turn up for every game to get up there, and keep up the standard throughout the play off games, should we achieve it.
Chances? ...... 50% at the moment. :)

Lets be honest, most of us Owls would have been more than happy with the position we are in at the moment having seen the state of affairs at the start of the season. We have some big games comming up and if we get through them in good shape and the clubs above us start to slip up we might (only might) just get there but do't think so, it's abit of a tall order

It's unlikely that virtually all of the top half are going to keep losing like yesterday while Wednesday keep winning... maybe with another 5-10 games remaining the chances would've increased, but you're going to need to string together a series of results that haven't looked likely all season (according to those on here who see them regularly).

But on the plus side, no one seriously expects Wednesday to make the playoffs, so there should be no pressure on the team, at least until you get within touching distance of the playoffs anyway? Wolves, Reading and Brum all seem to be fighting to avoid the automatics, maybe they fancy a trip to Wembley :hihi:

Owls chances probably depends if you can keep your first choice players fit and firing... there doesn't appear to be much depth beyond the first eleven? Good weekend for both Sheffield teams though :) If by some freak of nature United sneaked into the second place in the table, I wouldn't be too unhappy to see you win the playoffs and join us up there... *not like either of those things are going to happen though* :)
