View Full Version : Greens are not Brown in my Garden.
Are you the bloke I've just been told about at Morrisons, Halfway. Wanted some GREENS, you know cabbage stuff. Shelf at Morrisons full. Polythene bags of "GREENS", each bag containing equivalent of one cabbage at about a quid, give or take. Trouble is contents weren't GREEN, they were a dying carcass cabbage, in the most stunning Yellow /Brown colour. Somewhere near to compost. I notified a nice young Lady Staff ,who kindly informed me that this is how their customers like their GREENS. Are you that customer who likes his GREENS BROWN????? Just have a feeling that something is wrong here. I used to grow all sorts of vegetables myself, and never have my GREEN cabbages appeared in a gorgeous Brown to Yellow hue. Must try a different fertiliser!!
the fonz 21-06-2005, 15:06 Fresh fruit and veg from Morrisons are terrible in my experience
Reason 126 NOT to shop at Morrisons.
I don't buy 'greens' at morrisons since finding an excessive quantity of mildew in several punnets of cherry tomatoes, alongside a display of some wilted green stuff a couple of years ago
I also don't buy frozen stuff from Sainsbury's Crystal peaks after complaining TWICE about the over filling that was leaving products out of the freezer zone (and de-frosting)
:o No-one in their right mind would want brown/yellow greens - not even for their pet rabbit!
Some of the fruit and veg from supermarkets goes off really quickly these days, I remember hearing somewhere that some of the fruit and veg has travelled so far and is frighteningly old by the time it gets on the shelves.
None of the supermarkets seem very effective about removing old and stale fruit and veg from the shelves.
And another thing, everytime I get a 'string bag' of fruit (not very often) there is always at least one fruit that has to be thrown away because it's off.
:gag:
That's exactly what they were for------my rabbit and hens, but you know ,they complain so. You cannot kid hens, they really are not stupid. They know what colour cabbages should be. They are not too happy about all the bruises in the apples either. The apples look great on Morrisons shelves, but when the knife reveals the inside, it's like Tyson's face after a fight with all the bruises. Anyway I did complain, and now we'll see what they are like next time I'm in. thanks for info. on other stores. Keep it up boys !!!
DanSumption 21-06-2005, 15:58 Fruit and veg at Morrisons - DON'T DO IT!
Besides, I don't think Morrisons sell fruit and veg any more, they just sell adjectives. It's all "juicy apples", "crisp lettuce", "ripe tomotoes", etc etc etc. I mean, "greens" doesn't even have a noun - just the adjective!
The thing is, none of them ever match the descriptions. Hence I'm not surprised to hear that their greens aren't green. I'm sure you could make a case under the Trade Descriptions Act.
Perhaps it would make more sense for supermarkets not to seal everything in polythene... that way the fruit and veg would last longer.
Oh, sorry, just realised my error. That would mean the customers wouldn't have to buy so much of the bloody stuff to get a half decent amount after trimming off the manky bits.
When I asked at Asda why they had started individually packaging peppers, they told me it was to speed up service at the checkout, as the assistants would know what it was. Yes, those exotic peppers fool us every time.
I'm afraid thats Morrisons for you. I've lost count of the number of times that I've taken rotten (literally) products back and complained.
They should be taken to task over their slogan 'The best for less' , I mean thats a contradiction in terms to start with.
They sell cheap produce because it is second or even third rate quality, pure and simple. You get what you pay for!
Kristian 21-06-2005, 18:01 As a kid I used to fork for Morrisons. I won't go into detail, but I would never ever shop there!
Nah come on Kris, details please!!!

Who do you FORK for now K ;)
Doubt any of the other supermarkets are any better. Except maybe M&S and they aren't really a supermarket are they.

I once mentioned this in breaktime at work, and a woman said that is because the packers have to put them in to get rid of the rubbish. She then said that she used to do that job,but the packers are not employed by Morrisons or other supermarkets.
Yes their fruit is rubbish.
And have you noticed the stupid answers Morrisons staff give to your complaints??? I once enquired why a certain Bird's Eye fish product was not available, and was told that "----they were having trouble getting fish as there were not many left in the sea----". Now that's either a stupid answer or they could be accused of "taking the Mickey". Another point is that you cannot E-mail a complaint, or even an enquiry, to Morrisons. You have to write and post. Great customer service.

BoroughGal 21-06-2005, 23:24 No typo I'm afraid. He used to work on the fork lift trucks.
I'm sure he'd have answered before but I got in there first....
Don_Kiddick 22-06-2005, 05:35 That job has its' ups and downs :hihi:
Why do Morrisons package every single piece of fruit/veg in it's own Jacksonesque coccoon?
Environmental madnesss
It's not just Morros Don... Asda do it, and Tesco as well. I'm looking forward to the day they introduce individually wrapped grapes.
Aldi's is suprisingly good for fresh fruit and veg, they do really nice grapes and peaches. Also they have these really nice yogurt things with a layer of fruit in the bottom for about 14p. Greengrocers are often cheaper then supermarkets too. We had some of that frilly lettuce in a bag from tesco yesterday and when we got home and opened it the middle was just like mush and it stank.
