I have been shopping today in town and on the way back had 45 mins to kill before school due out so called into Heeley Retail Park for a browse around Readmans!!

To my shock and horror I found it is closing down as it's gone into administration...more details here on their website (http://www.readmans.co.uk/) !!

Everything is 50% off marked price so got some fantastic bargains but don't know HOW I will survive as I have grown to love this shop!

My Mother will never visit me again either...I am sure she only comes down from Middlesbrough when she fancies a trip to Readmans and that's where we always end up !!

:(

I hope someone buys them out and it is the parent company that has gone bankrupt the Readmans side of things was doing fine according to the 'equally' disappointed members of staff!!

Apparantly they only found out last Wednesday in a shock annoucement out of the blue!!

Will anyone else miss Readmans ???

whenever I went in it was always really quiet. Personally I went in loads of times but never once found anything that fitted me properly, the arms and legs were always too short, I decided it must be a shop for shorter people!

Did anyone notice it also had a really horrible smell? Kinda musty.

Oh well I hope something good moves in instead, though it is a big shop to fill.

The place did sell some real rubbish but if you looked often enough you could find nice thinggs as well. I'm more concerned about the possible closure of their toilets as they often came in very handy.
Also the women's underwear section didn't feel as intimidating as some other shops and before anybody asks 'No I don't wear lingerie'

I normally went in the evenings when the cafe was closing, I used to work in a coffee shop and it never smelt like reedmans!

I feel really sorry for the people who will be forced to look for a new job.

went in the one at the Retail Park at Parkgate today - what a con - 50% advertised prices until you get to the till then its full price! People should be aware - the till operator suggested the computer had been reset by the 'administrators' back to full price - we left our items at the till as did the rest of the queue..

its no wonder they are going out of business - irony of it was they had a chap putting up a sign in the window suggested the 50% off sale had been extended to the close of business today - didn't have the heart to tell him he'd got the day wrong

Good riddance...

Me and my boyfriend have given Readmans 25 years of work between us (luckily i got out 2 years ago) at the Leeds store, and he was made redundant today! Nobody from the company even had the decency to talk to him about it, all information has come from the administrators.......so we can honestly say we're glad it's shutting down! Good riddance to every store!

Last Friday at around 3pm, I went to Matalan at Woodseats. I happened to notice that Redmans was closed - which seemed funny at this time in the afternoon. Does anyone know if it is closing for good or closing for refurbishmnent etc?

Agreed, woodseats is a different district, 3/4 of a mile further south.

I thought it was Heeley Retail Park? :) Therefore, Heeley? :)

Arrgh, all confusing :) I've lived in this area all my life and between this and the Meersbrook thread I don't know where I am anymore!

Not a fan of Readmans, I prefer Matalan, the clothes are better quality.

Got a 10% discount voucher through for Readmans this week :suspect:

How unusual as the stores went into administration in July!!

Looked up the website and found this....

Readmans stores closed in summer due to the administration of the company but two sites of the company were bought back and continue to trade as Readmans, Leeds and Birkenshaw.

There are no plans at the moment to re-open the Stores in the South Yorkshire area ie., Sheffield and Rotherham.

The Leeds store is the largest, it is twice the size of the other and has twice the amount of bargains, as well as having a Coffee Lounge that sells hot food.

Why have I never heard of 'Readmans'? Sounds a bit like Matalan to me, which I hate. I've even been to Parkgate and not seen it.
