Again i was annoyed at the coverage recieved from our local BBC regional news programme (again) on Look Leeds Fridays show, with regard to the Sheffield derby fixture.

OK the derby did recieve a feature from them, but was quickly overlapsed by a much bigger feature about Super League Rugby.

Due to the West Yorks and Leeds bias of this programme (along with the other regional programme - Monster Trucks anyone?) they fail to appreciate the importance of this fixture to anyone in the south of their region, and the passion within Sheffield about football.

For a single city to be able to support 2 clubs in this way (and the majority of that, is only local support, not like Man U, Liverpool etc) is to be applauded, and should be recognised as possibly the biggest fixture within Yorkshire, and not Rugby League

I suspect the controllers of these programmes are West Yorks bias, and envious of the fact that Leeds and other Yokshire towns, could never replicate the passion, and history associated with this fixture.

Well done SWFC, SUFC and the people of Sheffield for making this fixture what it is.

The Championship this morning gave it the 15 seconds it deserves.......and opened up with Swansea V Ipswich as the main game.

It's a big game in Sheffield and that's it.

This weekend saw the start of the Rugby League season with a very successful Leeds Rhinos live on Sky Fiday night so it ws'nt surprising that they got the coverage from Look North.

Leeds V Millwall live on sky Monday night ............

:)

we all love Leeds (scum) :)

Same old story. Both news programmes have failed to serve Sheffield well for years. I suggest everyone email the bbc complaints dept, - and at the same time, ask them to explain why Radio Sheffield can't be a dedicated Sheffield Radio Station for 24 hours a day, as it should be with a city of our size. I reckon we could easily get 100 complaints from people on this site - and they'd have to listen.

It is very easy to do, and you can do it anonymously - follow the link....

No idea. I think Radio Sheffield might operate 24 hours - but it seems to be increasing non-local stuff for most of the time now.

Leaving aside what passes for football in Sheffield nowadays, have you tried Total something or other at 9p.m. Fridays? This six-part series feaures the city’s three main services; police, fire and ambulance. Or put plainly, Sheffield, Sheffield,Sheffield.

Far better in life is the ability to be positive and look at the publicity that Sheffield does get rather than what it does not get.

I’m not all that keen on football, but I admit that your ability to keep two teams in relative clover is better than only having one. But don’t knock ManU or City, or for that matter Liverpool or Everton. Both have to draw their crowds from an area in which other, smaller teams continue to survive and/or thrive on almost nothing along with some of Lancashire’s other, larger teams.

I’m thinking about Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley, Wigan, Rochdale, Bury, Chester, Tranmere etc. If you had that lot to contend with … heaven forbid!

To be fair though, you can't blame them for wanting to not go to Hillsborough, it does look like the leftovers from a WW2 bombing raid these days...maybe they could groundshare with Sheffield FC :)

As you say the bigger teams attract support on a national basis, wheras the Wigans, Man Citys, Boltons etc tend to be locally supported teams

I feel that this is the case of both Sheffield teams (locally supported) the support generated cannot be matched, both capable of attracting 20k + crowds on a weekly basis. On special occasions just look at the support taken to Wembley for the FA Semi in 93 and the numbers taken to Cardiff (both Owls and Blades) could this level of support be generated in any other locally supported team/derby game (ie Bristol, Nottingham, Stoke etc).
