I would guess this depends from policy to policy but generally what are you covered with tpft. I know the obvious, damage to others' property, stolen or burnt out car. What about if some steals something from the car or forces the door open?
I believe you are only covered for things directly related to theft or attempted theft of the car? What is to say someone who forced the door and stole the radio didn't attempt to take the car but couldn't? Would the radio be covered or repair to the door?
I guess if someone dents the car while it is parked up and doesn't leave any details it is just hard luck?

Hmmm... good question. I think I'd better review my policy again, because I'm not sure...
Having said that, I am TPFT simply because the car's value is approximately £90 including the new tyres, so I'm not likely to claim it :)
it's not normally worth claiming for a stereo anyway unless your car is worth >2k and/or the damage getting in was severe.
It certainly won't help for damage caused by someone who then left the scene (although the police might take your details down if you report it).
What does the MIB deal with (not the people who chase aliens!) can they sometimes help when someone left the scene without provifing details? I couldn't find anything on the webiste.
This post is purely speculative at the minute. My dad is giving me his old Saxo VTR, which due to been a vehicle of choice of many a boy racer has stupidly high insurance. It is only group 7 but a lot of insurers state you have to have 2 years NCB or be over 25 to take you  . I am going to have to get tpft and just want to check exactly what is covered.
they probably can, but they do impose something like a £300 excess.

I read the excess bit somewhere too. I guess as it is all I can afford anyway it is pretty irrelevant. I will just have to hope nothing too expensive happens that I can't claim for.
TPFT
If your car is stolen they'll pay
If you car is set on fire they'll pay
If you crash they'll pay for damage you cause, but not to your car.
Thats it - no more no less - If you do get more tell me who from because you're getting a great deal!

I thought it was any act directly related to theft or attempted theft of the car? Hence my confusion on exactly what that meant.
You would have to check your policy conditions, but usually it is only the actual theft of your car, not attempted theft or theft of something from it unless specified in the policy.

Third Party Fire and Theft
What is covered:
You hitting something/one with the car
Your car getting torched or catching fire
It gets pinched ...OR damaged as a result if attempted theft, including glass. But it would be a theft claim and not worth bothering.
My advice is if all you want is tpft, the car must be worth bugger all and you just need cover to comply with the road traffic act.
Other advice is take the Legal protection, because if somebody hits you, you will need legal to get you/your car fixed by the other party, your insurance company will not want to be involved.
Comp covers theft from vehicle, broken glass and you being a prat and driving it into a wall during a dodgy reverse exercise.
Third party, fire and theft generally covers what it says. third party accident, fire damage and theft but all policys are differant
