There is (or was) a Sheffield/Rotherham connection with the Post Office in Sennen and the Chippy in Sennen Cove.Sorry I can't remember exactly. And there are lots of Sheffielders in the village of Sheffield just outside Penzance.

Unfortunatley it's not on the telly. And it's not on R.Sheff on-line.You're very lucky to live in such a beautiful area.We try to visit a couple of times a year if we can.Half time 2-1 to owls!

I live in Cornwall and have done for the past 35 years. Unfortunately my husband is a Blades fan(having been born near Bramall Lane) I was born Wadsley Bridge so I suppose I would be more inclined to Owls if I followed football. Needless to say he wasn't very happy last night - first time in 94 years that Owls did the double.

There are certainly two Sheffielders in Plymouth, strangly we both went to Firth Park Grammar. I know Plymouth is in Devon, but that's near Cornwall!

It obviously got you thinking about gods own country!I've found out today that the bloke who used to play the organ in Sennen church was from Sheffield and the car-park man at Mousehole was from Rotherham(but that was a good few years ago)

John Piper, a veteran journalist who worked for The Star in Rotherham for many, many years, lives in retirement in Cornwall --near Helston; and a former Star editor, David Flynn, lives near Bodmin. Long ago, my favourite author, Howard Spring, whose novels featured Cornwall (even though he was a Welshman and a former Manchester journalist), lived in Falmouth at a place called The White House.

A little off topic but still about Cornwall. I'm reminded of a holiday we spent at a Holiday Camp in Cornwall back in 1957. It was at Perranport: Perran Sands. Decide to google it and to my surprise found out it's still operating. Anyone been there recently or like me, way back in the 50s? Bit of a shoestring operation bk then.

We went on a last-minute last year. . . never again. . .although if you are into all the non-stop fun thing then you would love it. There is even a burger king on site.
Have to say it was full of chav's and the people in the accommodation next to us had their passenger window on their car smashed as did about half a dozen other holiday makers.
Perranporth is still really nice though IMO. :)

I lived in Helston and the Lizard for many years. My mother and father moved to Falmouth in the early 60s, my brother to plymouth then to Liskeard in the sixties, and my nephew still lives in Camelford. My son was born in Redruth. So the entire Sheffield family lived in Cornwall. At my brothers funeral in 1989, there were a lot of ex Sheffielders there, all living around Liskeard and working in plymouth.

I live very near Helston, have done for quite some time. The place is dying on its feet. Thank God for Culdrose and the people who work there. Without them Helston would only see the odd tourists passing through

Mr elder bro' is at Gorran Churchtown, near Mevagissey. I suppose you could say he's a Wednesdayite, him and his lad went to the semi aginst United with me in '93, but at the time he said his previous Wednesday game to that was an F.A. cup replay against Everton in '67 when apparently my Dad made him take me cos he was working!
Mind you, these days I'm more of a Rotherham Titans fan, and last year I went down to Cornwall and took him and his wife to their first ever rugby game to see the Titans play against the Cornish Pirates. And what an experience that was! Fantastic atmosphere with the Pirates fans singing and chanting all the way through, even though it was an end of season match with nothing at stake. And the home fans took the mick out of me mercillesly all the way through, to then shake my hand and wish me a safe journey home at the end. Total respect for them, great people the Cornish are! My brother loves it down there.

Culdrose is the reason I settled in Cornwall. I was a radio mech in the RN. My Ma and Pa followed us down when my Dad ws unable to stay in Sheffield because of air pollution. My older brother brought a couple of his pals down for an interview at Tecalemit in Plymouth and they offered him a job as well with a council house available in Devonport.I suppose Flora Day is still going strong, Helston's once a year day. I had a cottage in Lizard for a long time, loved it there.

As Gladys Clark says Cornwall very much reminds me of Yorkshire. When we came to view our now house 35 years ago - the view across the valley from the front window was so similar to our view across the valley in Penistone minus the railway. Of course, the sea from the back was so different making it our little bit of paradise.
