I am on Tiscali 2meg broadband and I am downloading a few things from Limewire (all legal).

I have chosen to download off of members with a high upload speed but am still only getting 1 KB/s.

Is there anything I can do to improve the speed?

Ta

Tiscaly cap the speeds, i get the same on my (damn) tiscaly bb, the only way is to change for a better provider.

What does "cap the speed" mean?

I usually download at about 150KB/s to 200KB/s off of normal websites.

It meens they monitor ur trafic and limit the speed of trafic for p2p networks such as LimeWire, eDonkey, BitTorrent. I might be wrong but thats what my research came to.

I've never used Limewire but i'm guessing it works on a similar principle to BitTorrent/Bit Lord/Azureus etc...

If so, i have read that it is to do with port forwarding. Otherwise you are unable to connect to a tracker.

I might be miles off though :suspect:

PS....I'm presuming you've checked the right ports are open and Firewall has been checked?

First of all Tiscally dont provide u wiv a router, u get a USB modem which dont require port forwarding. Second i tryed evrething on the 3 networks (eDonkey/LimeWire/BitTorrent) and they are all cap't, although thank god capping "service" seems to be down alot of time

My brother is on Tiscali, using Azureus @ approx 35-40kb/s
It isn't capped for him :?

I'm not really a fan of peer-peer but have found Limewire to be spot on. High speed and good completion.

Is that anything to do with it being a pay site and Limewire being free?

The doubt they are pay sites. Can't say anymore than that :suspect:

i have heard that the ISP's in the uk where recently offered software to cap speeds of users using P2P (not sure how it knows) and some signed up (sorry dont know which) but Telewest (cos im with them) did not. they know they get people on high speed packages to use p2p networks
