There is DVI to VGA, But not VGA to DVI.

Check your TV, they usually have VGA also..

Are you useing the on-board graphics chip, or a graphics card?
My guess would be the onboard one, if so your best option would probably be to get a graphics card that has the connections you need.

think you could only do it via HDMI lead if your computer had HDMI port in it i used to have my computer running from VGA to VGA on my 32inch waltham hd tv but had to use Aux cables to have sound come through

No, you can get DVI>HDMI adapters quite cheaply. As for VGA>DVI converter?, it would be a lot less trouble (and cheaper?) to get a cheap graphics card with a DVI output.

Just buy a cheap video card, will only set you back ?15-?20 and the output quality would be much better, just make sure it has dvi or hdmi output

dvi doesn't carry sound, HDMI does, you can get DVI > HDMI adaptors, but your Graphics card will need to have HD Audio its self (like ATI cards do)

You can get 25m+ DVI > DVI Leads..

You dont need the sound to come from the graphics card as that is waht the sound card is for, all you do to get the sound on is use a mini din plug(i think thats what its called) into the green sound port on the back of your pc and that will go into your surround sound(Iif you have one) or the back of your tele via phono(red+white connectors)

this is the cable

Thats if your grpx card does not have HDMI port that supports audio over it.

By him asking if the audio goes down the same cable, I assume he wants it to.. hence my recommendation of a Graphics card that supports HDMI+HD Audio

Sure the option you have given is the 'normal' way, and is only stereo, audio over HDMI will support full surround (if that's what he wants)

What is DMI? do you mean DVI?

If you do mean DVI, you can either get..

A DVI > DVI Cable (can get almost any length, just costly)
and a cable like Bonjon said above for stereo sound.

If you want it all over one cable, you need a GFX card that supports HDMI and HDMI HD AUDIO, and a lenghtly HDMI cable (again, costly)

sorry ghozer i meant dvi lol
so if i get a dvi i would also need to get audio leads ??
where would i get leads about 5 mtr in length ???

Ghozer

yes, if you got DVI you would need audio leads too..

and most places (maplins (expensive), bardwells, or even online like aria.com / ebuyer.com) sell 5 mtr cables.

Seen as your useing the onboard graphics chip you will have to make sure you use a screen resolution thats compatable with your TV. HDMI TV's usally have massive resolutions, thats the reason a few of us sugested useing a graphics card.

Try turning your PC off, then pluging in the TV and switching on... Windows may detect that you switched monitors and select a compatable resolution for you.

Ive got a few old GFX cards spare, I think one of them has VGA/DVI/S-VHS plugs on it... If your computer uses a AGP slot you could buy it off me :)

If you have a look inside your computer their sould be a row of slots, the standard color's are white brown and blue. The white are PCI, the brown is AGP and the blue is PCI-E.
