I have been without a job for a couple of weeks now and have been bugging agencies to find me a position.

Now, I was called up to come in for a pre-interview to prepare me for an interview on Monday - and because I couldn't make it at the time and day they wanted, I was accused of not having the right attitude because I lacked enthusiasm.

Now anyone who knows me will know that I love working and hate wasting my days at home. So what she said was really ofnsive. I have a great working relationship with that particular agency.

What she said triggered a memory from a couple of yers ago when I was also looking for a job through a different agency in a different city. I couldn't make the pre-interview intrview because I had a prior engagement. I was accused ofthe same thing fro not being able to commit to the time they specified. She used pretty much the same wording as the lass used today.

Has anyone else been faced with this accusation, or is it just a coincidence?

(before anyone shoots me down - yes, I am actively looking for a job and I'm not being Diva -like and picky. I have been offered a temp position- most likely to go permanent with a company that I used to wok for and LOVED working for them. The agency basically said I was daft for not going to the interview they want me to go to as it is permanent guarenteed)

oh it's just 'keys and a phone syndrome' - more recently replaced by 'blackberry' syndrome

Don't let them bully you, you know what you're worth

and it's GUARANTEED ;)

Thats strange, Ive worked for a couple of agencies, and they bend over backwards to try to get me on their books, everything is done to suit my terms, they are as nice as pie and cant do enough to 'fit' themselves around my schedual. Ive also never had a pre-interview interview?? If I was you, I'd dump that agency ... and write a letter to the manager telling him/her why and sign on with several other agencies, theres plenty to choose from.

You didn't say that, if you did it wouldn't have been removed. Please refer to our rules, particularly the ones regarding our family friendly ethos.

Well my experience of agencies is they are a complete waste of space. Half the jobs they reckon they have dont exsist.

I've been with them for awhile now, and as I said, I have a good working relationship with one of them, but have been offered a different terms.

I was wondering if this was a stock standard response to get people to jump.

I did offer alternative times, but that was when she said she doubts my commitment.

I was told if I didn't start a job in a few days I couldn't have it, and I'd booked train tickets to visit family already.

I'm interested to know which agency this was. Are you allowed to disclose that to us publicly on here? I too had a terrible experience with an Agency yesterday. I was contacted by them and asked to go in for a pre-interview to be able to be put forward for an interview that was also taking place on Monday.

I'm sorry if this happens to be that same company that i had the 'pleasure' of wasting my time with. It's very frustrating that they assume we can drop everything and run to them, like we don't have thing's going on, how ever they feel it is important or not. I was snowed in yesterday so i wasn't able to get the car out, but because of the urgency that the person on the phone made out that i made it in to their office for the pre-interview, i wrapped up like an eskimo and walked from my house which is in Derbyshire (a retired farm) to Sheffield, to get to the tram (no bus services) just to get to the City Centre of Sheffield to find in the end they didn't even register me and infact the woman, insulted me on how honest i was with my answers. They also broke DPA rules- this bugged me the most. A very bad agency which i should hope to see close down soon! Let me know if i am allowed to put it on here about the agency so you people out there looking for a job, don't waste yout time with this terrible time wasting agency!
