Did anyone attend King ecberts in the 70's. If so what are your memories. Also do you remember Cecil road juniors (St Barnabus).

I went to King Egbert but in the sixties when it was a school for "young ladies"Miss Coates was the head and Miss Varah the deputy.Wasn't a bad school,except for deportment and elocution.Can you imagine a Sheffield lass trying to talk posh?Do you mean St. Barnabas on Alderson Rd?If so. Hi spaulding bit before my time but it was a mixed school in the 70's. Also we use to play Alderson road at football Cecil road was near Highfield school (behind Sharrow lane) Both junior schools were a part of St Barnabus church.

I recall Mr Shaw. Remember Mrs Rawlings ? I left 77 but spent my last year at Abbeydale grange.

Yes, I do remember Miss Rawlins but before her it was Miss Coates . She always wore her gown and was very tiny, she looked like a wandering bat on the corridors!

Mr.Salway and Miss Coates, or Kitty, as we called her, were there in my time.She was a bit of a dragon, who insisted on good manners and no vulgarity.She had a problem with eating in the street,and set prefects to spy on everyone on the way to the bus stop.The old bat also hated lollies, or "sweets on sticks",as she called them.

Some people use to say Salway wore a wig is that true?

don't remember the wig, but we always thought the French teacher was a bit limp wristed.I think his name was Jones, and he wore dark glasses.Whenever I read aloud, he'd cast up his eyes and lisp,"you speak good French, but with a common Yorkshire accent"

We didn't have deportment or elocution lessons then. In 6th Secretarial with Mr Shaw we used to have horse riding lessons for deportment instead. Miss Ainsworth was the deputy then too. Did you Know Hazel Proctor, Jane Geddes or Mary Tyrell?

Yes Scout, Hazel Proctor was my best friend in 1st and 2nd years.Don't recall the other two though
