Hi folks,

Trying to fix my sisters PC and it appears the hard drive has gone.

It spins up but isn't recognised by the BIOS.

I've tried downloading Samsungs drive tools but because the bios doesn't see it, neither can the tools.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

Paul.

As long as the Hard drive is set up correctly in the BIOS, The data and power cables are connected properly and the jumpers are set correctly then its pretty definitely going to be a faulty drive.
Might be worth trying the drive in another p.c or another drive in this p.c just to confirm if available

All power/SATA cables have been tried as have other ports (where the SATA DVD drive works fine)....BIOS I'm guessing is set on auto and before this was erroring. I was going to run chkdsk but it would appear it's gone the next stage...bugger.

maybe worth going into bios and using 'optimised defaults' just to make sure its not been disabled somewhere by accident..

I'll give it a go but I think it's probably gone....early Samsung drive and I don't think they had a great reputation.
