I have found myself in the position (After a house clearance)
Of a Dead Fox.

It is a real Fox fur Thingy that goes around ladies necks.

I understand that having dead animals around your neck used to be fashionable years ago.

This "Thing" dates from the 1930s, and is still boxed.
It is in the boot of our car at the minute.

I thought about taking it to Lincoln to an expensive fancy dress shop. I am open to ideas.
PS Do- gooders/ animal rights, dont bother posting, I agree before you post. I am just lumbered with it.

I also thought about museums.

I dont want to sell it for money. just looking for ideas so we can keep it somewhere where we can show our Grandkids how evil and sad we used to be.

Perhaps costume department at the Lyceum or Crucible theatre will have it?

Better check to make sure there no little critters crawling around in it, furs have to be kept in a cool place, else things will grow in them, thats if it's real fur ! if fake you won't have to worry.

Also I think it has a few "Lodgers" in it so it will need cleaning, ( Already moved a few inches on it's own :gag: )

Thats why it's in the boot

Are they carpet beatles? Little tiny ladybird looking things.

If they are, you need a can of Doom - I got some from John Lewis, same department as shoelaces and stuff. Don't spray it directly on the thing, spray an old t-shirt (or something) and wrap it around it.

Don't we have any costume museums in this neck of the woods?
Are there any photos of Grandma wearing the stole?

Edit: There's a costume museum in Nottingham http://www.information-britain.co.uk/showPlace.cfm?Place_ID=4854

Putting it in the freezer is probably the best thing for it, (museums do it all the time) but seal it in a heavy duty plastic bag first....just so nothing escapes into other things in the freezer ;)

I seem to have carpet beetles (little black and white ladybirdy things) but i have no carpets!!!!!!:suspect:

Am I the only one scratching while I am reading this?

I wouldn't bother with Ebay, they are hardly giving them away.

They live on any natural (preferably animal) fibres, so keep an eye on any woollies or silks. wool coats are at particular risk.

We picked the little blighters up in a rented flat years ago, and every once in a while they re-surface again. :suspect:

I remember my paternal grandmother showing me one of these 'fox fur' things when i was a little kid. I thought at the time it was pretty horrific but she explained that they were fashionable at one time. When she passed away (in the 70's) my dad's older sister had it. Not sure what happened to it after that.

Personally, i wouldn't have one in the house but I do think this sort of thing should be preserved as an historic reminder of how people used to live. And although this poor creature has been dead for many years, it seems to me rather callous to just throw it in the bin?

I hope you find a home for it.

It is enough of an insult to the animal that it lost it's coat in such a fashion, but to discard it would be far more revolting. I would regard it as disrespect

These things were loved posessions for those who owned them. Please treat it with care, and preserve it carefully.
