View Full Version : BIG PARTY IDEA - Could we make this happen?
mr.blaze 20-06-2005, 11:23 AM I was talking to a few sf members last night about the idea of throwing a big outdoor sf/public party somewhere this summer. The idea of a BBQ came up not so long ago but nothing seems to have been nailed down. Could we still do this with music?
What would people think to having a day and night of music somewhere outdoors preferably a pub with good bus access and a large field? Tickets would be about £5 which would cover the costs of food, rental of any equipment, a bouncy castle for kids and any other costs we may incur.
I'm quite happy to sort out a sound system and a few pretty well known dj's and bands to come and play. But I could do with someone else who wouldn't mind spending a bit of time to help organise it with me.
Good idea/Bad idea?
venger 20-06-2005, 11:27 AM I have a bit of spare time at the moment if you need a hand.
Litha 20-06-2005, 12:01 PM yeah good idea :D
i would come
msbehavin 20-06-2005, 12:11 PM I think it's a terible idea and would not dream of coming...;)
KidPhunk 20-06-2005, 03:59 PM Hey I'm pretty new to the forum but as i run/had experience of runnin a couple of nights in Sheff I am willing to lend my services both as a DJ and organiser.:D
carcrash 20-06-2005, 04:36 PM I've got access to most of the equitpment needed
DanSumption 20-06-2005, 04:48 PM Wasn't there another thread about this exact subject a couple of months ago? I seem to remember lots of support for the idea, but don't think anything ever got organised.
jenhoppy 20-06-2005, 07:45 PM I think its a good idea, must remember to organise an event like this you must have correct insurances etc.Dont know if this would prove expensive or not as ive never actually organised one.Might be cheaper if food isnt involved i would have thought.Other than that has anyone got a LARGE HOUSE to hold it in as a private party????

Just for the kids? I'm not coming, then. :shakes:
ddolly 20-06-2005, 09:34 PM I think it sounds like a fine idea! I've been to a few little community festivals in Sheff and they've been great fun. I would be happy to help - used to organise events so can help with a bit of whatever.

That's why we got J on the case Dan! He had some really good ideas last night, and some real enthusiasm too! :)
I'd definately be up for it J, and if you need a hand organising I'll see what I can do! ;)

mr.blaze 20-06-2005, 11:10 PM Thanks for the good feedback. This is starting to sound more like a small festival type idea with lots of people willing to help. I will contact those offering help when it's needed.
Should be great fun
Litha 21-06-2005, 11:50 AM hubby's cousin is taking the angel pub at woodhouse over in a few weeks and they have offered to let me hold my Pagan moots there so i cant see a prob for something like this, they have a big function room plus a beer garden.
if its kinda thing ya looking for let me know n ill have a word :D
Strix 21-06-2005, 12:22 PM OOOHHHH! Their beer garden is quite good (if it hasn't got all overgrown in the excessive numbers of tennant changes it's had :suspect: )
Might have to get to one of these moots now :D
They also have an outdoor play area, and I'm not sure they have space for the bouncy castle, unless it can go in the carpark, but as there is already play equipment there, I don't suppose it'd be a problem if we couldn't have the castle (and it won't cost anything ;) )
Litha 21-06-2005, 12:26 PM well if it is Strix it wont be for long cos Marie n John are gunna re decorate it and smarten it all up, she is planning bouncy castles n things for the kids etc..
so if it does sound the right place for the sheff forum get together i can have a word n sort it out etc..
Strix 21-06-2005, 01:07 PM Will dogs still be allowed in the bar?
Litha 21-06-2005, 01:09 PM dont no Strix sorry, but i can ask when i next see them, they might be allowed in the function room or beer garden but cant honestly say. ill let ya know
Strix 21-06-2005, 04:41 PM When Frazer had it, food was served in the family room and lounge/conservatory, so dogs weren't allowed. They were allowed in the bar/games room.
When it changed hands (several times) the rules changed (everytime). One landlord tried to say that they weren't allowed at all, but threats of mutiny from the barstaff meant we could bring him in :D . One div tried to say he was allowed in the family room :loopy: The one with the 'No Dogs' sign on it
Johnsmith 21-06-2005, 05:09 PM Hey jay, are you looking for a venue..........
BoroughGal 21-06-2005, 05:27 PM Jay, you know me, I'm DEFINETELY up for it... I have nothing to offer in the way of venues or sound systems... but I would deffo bring myself and a crisp new £5 note....
Let me know if there is owt I can help with though.
mr.blaze 21-06-2005, 05:40 PM Hi chaps, still looking for a venue. I was thinking somewhere like The Three Merry Lads.
I'll have a trip up to the Angel litha and have a looky thankew :)
SHsheff 21-06-2005, 05:49 PM The Three Merry Lads would be excellent on a hot day! Or the Sportsman? I went to some all-day music do with a big tent there a number of years ago. Dunno if they'd do it? Are we looking at a big tent?
Do we have any idea how many people would be coming? Are we going to get this event featured in the local media or just for the Forum regulars? We might well get a decent amount of interest from local papers/radio stations re the Forum - whaddya think? I don't remember reading/hearing much about Forums like this in other cities and newspapers are traditionally short of proper news in the summer months...
You want a hand re sorting out venues J-B? Or owt else? I'm free if you do!

Are we having this event or wot, J-Blaze? Or did you rethink and decide there isn't time left to organise it?
E-Man Groovin 27-06-2005, 08:45 PM Count me in. I've got a reasonable 1k watt system (CD decks & turntables). Plus I'd be happy to do the chillout set!
mr.blaze 27-06-2005, 09:29 PM It is cutting things fine but I think we could still make this happen :)
SHsheff 27-06-2005, 10:19 PM Uh. Like, erm, when?
We looking at the weekend 9th and 10th July for it?#

Aint having a dig, J-Blaze, just wondered what stuff was going to be played. Drum and Bass bores me silly, young phunk.
