Hi

I have been told my WBC count is raised after 28wks bloods in preg. I had not had a cold etc when I got tested and following a retest on Monday there's no change. I am due in 9wks, told to repeat test in 6wks.

Is this normal? Very worried now.

It's probably just the result of an infection - most likely a UTI or bladder infection. Stress or anxiety can also increase your WBC count too.

If your GP/Midwife though it was cause for concern, they would be monitoring you more closely, so the fact they don't want to retest for another six weeks suggests it's nothing to worry about.

Why not call your midwife for reassurance? It's what I would do.

Hey.. am trying now but no-ones answering *sobs*.... I have done a urine test last week which was fine and have had no illness and just am worrying now! 6 weeks seems a long time to me. Will carry on trying MW.x

I hope you manage to get through - but like I said, if they were concerned they would be monitoring it much more closely - and it could just be stress itself that's raised your count. I know there's no point telling a pregnant woman not to worry (I'm one myself!) but please try!

Spoke to the nurse who was reasuring but she did think it'd be a UTI as last test showed a small trace of protein but the one I did last week was clear and I have not been unwell otherwise.

She says no rise, no drop, retest 6wks and if still same etc. then referral. Seems an awful long time to wait and especially since I am due in less than 9 weeks. Really feel sick now! x

If you search on Cosywolfs threads in parenting of 2008 you'll find threads with the exact same problem, the possible issues and the eventual, happy, outcome.
She's been there through all that and posted eloquently so you should find plenty of info there :)
