And..... Operating Systems, installed software such as firewalls, internet security suites etc...
How are you trying to connect to the internet, USB modem, wired\wireless router.
hi i'll try to give you as much info the best i can. i went to disk direct an told them i wanted to connect two pcs up and this is what they gave me.
sparkcom adsl modem router, integrated 4 port 10/100mbps switch. with a telephone cable
a network card for one computer
a long wire, not a crossover ( for the network card in the second computer to go into the router)
i think thats it.

y don't u just try a cross over cable and make your life easier.
I can't see that it's the cable causing the problem.
janny, can you see the router, i.e. can you access the setup pages via a browser? To do this you should just need to open a browser window (such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) and type the routers default address in the address bar in the form of http://default_address. You may need to default the router first as some can have been altered for some reason prior to you recieving the item. The default address will be in the setup guide that came with the router.
If so can you get the router to connect?
What internet service do you have, ADSL or cable?
