Consider this hypothetical situation with a poll attached:

If your wife/partner, child or best friend told you that, although completely innocent, the police were trying to frame him/her for a serious crime, do you think that you might lie initially to help protect them?

Should I count that as a possibly?

Depends on the seriousness of the crime and what you're supposed to be lieing about.

Everyone is voting possibly, including me. I agree though, it would depend on whether or not you believed them.

Surely there must be someone who trusts the police more than their closest friends and family?

I'd trust Tony Blair sooner than I'd trust the old Bill.

Depends of how serious it is,,, personally i work for the HO so i would be out on my ear with any wrong doing of any kind so i would have to consider that to.

I voted no. If the police were truly trying to frame someone and I lied to protect them then surely the police would just throw their net wider and drag me in too. I'd rather work from outside prison to clear my friend/relative's name.

On doing that then yes if i thought my partner was being framed then i would help the police to clear there name.

Look again, it's the police who are doing the framing.

i reckon the best course would be to be honest - if they are being framed for something then the truth is the only thing that would really stand up in court...

Yeah, but the police would lie in court if they were trying to frame someone. I've witnessed this first hand.
