I don't want anything flash. I only need it to do calls and texts, and would be perfectly happy with my Nokia 3310, if it had a larger phonebook, and it didn't get stroppy about punctuation :suspect:

Anybody seen any sim-free phones for sale at a reasonable price? I should have got a 3410 when my brother found them on offer 12 months ago, but I thought mine still had some mileage in it

I would prefer to stick with a Nokia, and I'm definately not looking for a second hand one ;)

Argos (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=3151&productId=129508&clickfrom=name) are still selling the Nokia 3410 at just £35.

They're also selling the Nokia 1100 at £30

How much are you paying per month?

£15ish usually, on the virgin price match plan with Orange, never more than £25.

I can't change my number, and I'm not changing from orange :)

I think I need a sim card upgrade though :suspect:

Tried getting a free upgrade from Orange?

Call them from your phone for free on 150 and ask. They're pretty good at letting you know what you can get for what prices, and if they can't give you a good deal or not, they'll tell whether you can get one by threatening to disconnect, providing you speak to the right operator! :)

Cheers Hook.

This worked for somebody I know with a significantly higher bill, but they don't do upgrades unless I go back onto an Orange tariff, which will be at least £5 per month (tied to 12 months) that I won't use, so that will be £30.

If I can get a sim free for around this price, that'll probably suit me better.

I got a free upgrade to my 6230 on my Orange T-Mobile Value Match plan, they first quoted me £99 and I threatened to disconnect and they gave it me for free. Suspect they wouldn't if they knew I was a student now.

I only spend around £15 a month on that phone, although it's worth noting I do have another contract with them on a pure Orange service plan. But I get free upgrades on that one too.

Have you got the student discount package now then?

I now have a Samsung D500 and it is a tremendous phone, but the texting is best on nokia. Also the flash works but the daylight pics are the only good quality ones. So don't let the fact that the camera has a flash sway you in any way. They are grainy and often liney. I recently took about 150 1.3MP pics in germany and czech rep, what a memory!

I wanted orange because I live at the abbey end of woodseats where that is the only network which works well. And they didn't have any in at link so I got an unlocked one for exactly the same deal. Yum Yum!

Just my comments, i'm sorry if I am a bit of message on this thread, but I think it's relevent.

I particularly don't want a camera phone. Just something for texting and phoning really.

Thanks for the input though, Muddy. I'd be surprised if there weren't others following this thread ;)

On the other package. I had to take out a seperate contract to get the student package, couldn't add it on to my existing contract. It still works out cheaper to have two contracts and get 1000 free text messages one one, and 750minutes of free calls on the other. Trouble is I just forget which one is which! :o

Anybody else spotted a bargain out there?
