I am absolutely terrified by thunder and lightning.

i hate it! My preferred place durung a thunderstorm was always either hte cellar head, or under the dining table. (LOL)

I think I am so affected, because when I was a child, our house was struck by a lightning bolt, and we had flooding in out living room.

I am about to go to the dev cat, and I am dreading going out!

I love to watch storms from the house, I don't even mind being out on foot, but I just got home from a journey to Lancashire and came over Snake Pass. The lightening was spectacular but I was dreading the storm coming over me.

I know the rubber tyres are meant to insulate the care and all that, buit there was a lot of rain coming down too!

There was a jolly good Monsoon here in Sothall and the lightning took my internet connection out for a short time - rebooted my router and all is ok. More rumbling now though so fingers crossed :P

C. that's down to the high level of muggings you get down there.

I've just been out naked in the rain and thunder. It was so liberating.... I think the neighbours phoned the police.. I love storms!!!!!!!

thunder, lightening, heavy rain... that nice smell of wet in summer... i'd love to say my feelings about these things but I dont think it should be said on a public forum...

if you want to know ask one of my ex's, they'll tell you exactly what affect thunder storms have on my "mood" ;)

do they have a similar affect on anyone else?

Yes, me. Sadly only one of my ex-partners (it's a sorrowfully long list) felt the same way. The 'storm' bit was entirely optional, however, just getting home wet through was enough to set my scrotal hairs alight with anticipation. She always seemed to feel the same way, even though she didn't have no scrotal hairs. Have I used the phrase 'scrotal hairs' enough times? 'Scrotal hairs'.....there, I've said it again.

My friend Steve once used his dad's vair swish Phillips recording deck (it was the late 'seventies) to record an apocalyptic storm over Coal Aston. We used to listen to it on hot, sunny, cloudless days whilst smoking 'jazz cigarettes'. It seemed strangely appropriate.

Storms are lovely, and are just one of the seemingly endless beautiful things that nature gives us, for free. All such bright and beautiful things represent, to me, absolute cast-iron proof that there is no God.

Am I alone in not being that impressed by that 'storm'? Sure there was a fair bit of lightning, but the overall 'sexiness' of that storm was not very high I thought :|
Need to do better than *that* Mother Nature :P

I agree... although im kinda happy seen as I'm here alone... now if I was with a nice woman I would have been much more impressed with a torrential down pour and louder clashes of thunder!

Oooh I love a good storm - we don't seem to get that many these days!

The thunder earlier sounded right overhead - brilliant!

I could watch the lightening for hours (and usually do), makes me feel all exhilarated, fab.

Ha ha how true!!! AOHELL is forever conking!! Temperamental flippin' thing!!

Our Sky always goes off in heavy rain so it was back to the 5 channels only.

I love storms but they do scare me a little, sort of like a rollercoaster ride where you know you're safe yet in the back of your mind you have the 'will the thing get stuck?' thoughts going on!! :o
My nan was terrible and as it was her that brought me up I got a lot of the fear from her and never feel fully comfortable in a thunderstorm, especially when I'm on my own during one! She used to hide under the stairs and take the dog (who didn't give two hoots!) with her!! :D The dog we have now is petrified, she ran to the hallway for cover as theres no windows in there. Apparently you're not supposed to reassure animals when they're frightened as it's confirming to them that they do have something to be scared about.

Amen to that.

Tonight's storm was a cracker too, some nice forked stuff and proper claps.

Went out for a bit, although I kept my clothes on - Pretty much like standing under a tepid power shower. Cat looked less than impressed when she shot in through the flap though.

It seems that the storm has moved south, as it has just started thundering....just as I'm about to leave for work, too....grrrrrrr

It was very warm before it started, but the temperature seems to have risen several degress in the past 10 minutes....I just hope this storm cools it down a bit, so maybe I might get some sleep tonight, which was very lacking last night.

Actually, I love thunder and lightning to watch, as long as I'm indoors....not keen on being out in it, especially with a metal-stemmed umbrella.

Normally I love thunderstorms, but for some reason last night's had me feeling really on edge & nervous.

Best storm ever, though, was when I was in India (Pushkar). It was still the dry season, but this was a real monsoon-type storm. It started up really suddenly, and the lightning was so bright that although it was night the village and the entire sky kept lighting up as if it were daylight. Also, I never realised until this storm that lightning can be different colours - sometimes it was electric blue, other times yellow, and other times pastel pink. We sat in a café for the first quarter-of-an-hour and then made a dash for our hotel - during that 15 minutes, enough rain had fallen that we were wading in water nearly halfway up our calves. Magic.

Dan,
That sounds like a fantastic experience- electric blue and pastel pink lightning! I would love to see that. Our British lightning sounds pathetically dull and tame in comparison.

I'm lucky enough to be witnessing some of the most amazing storms in the world, on an almost daily basis, thanks top the Monsoon season. They really are quite spectacular - unlike any storms I've seen before! I've always been fascinated by storms, so it's pretty cool!

I managed to get a couple of photos of the incredible lighting a couple of nights ago - with the Mekong River in the foreground. Laos is a magnificent place for storm watching!
