View Full Version : Rock/Metal fan...? Check out Corporation!
Kensnroses 19-06-2005, 07:51 PM Honestly, I've been living and working in Sheffield for around 18 months now, and if you're into anything rock or metal, you should check out Corporation! It rules!!!!!!! I've been more times than I dare to count, and am not bored of it atall!
duffman 19-06-2005, 08:57 PM If you had gone to the corp many moons ago you would have found todays club a whole lot worse in comparison. I have been going for 8 years and have seen many incarnations of the corporation, this one doesn't rank at the top i'm affraid :( StillI go on a saturday sometimes to live up those classic 80's big hair rock tunes
robbie 19-06-2005, 10:54 PM it may rule whn you are 14 but it certainly doesn't when you're a bit older. Although the metal room is very funny on a Friday ;)
Pauline BHG 19-06-2005, 11:36 PM I dont find the Corporation crowd THAT young actually !! The goth/80s room certainly has older people in, and the classic rock room has all ages. I think its a great club ! I only moved here a year ago, I never got to the old Corp either.
Munchies 20-06-2005, 12:00 AM Sounds like you go on a Saturday. The Friday crowds pretty young, but recently they seem to have been getting stricter with IDing since the 14 year old with her boobs out in corp was printed in Nuts magazine. Luckily I'm young and legal so I get the best of both worlds :)
thenewborn 20-06-2005, 12:29 AM im legal, and will never go to the corp again... but then again thats not the corps fault, i jsut hate clubs and pubs and socialising basicly... in fact this forum is as much conversation i ever have to people other than my family and close friends. I just prefer to drink at home... and play sonic
I think its great that Corp is full of youngsters - thats how a rock club should be..!!
*Turbo* 20-06-2005, 01:08 AM I guess i'm classed as old (29!) and i've been going to corp for around 5 years.
The old venue was a great venue and in some respects better but worse than the current venue.
The old one was great as each room was a short walk where the disadvantage of the current venue are the stairs, but saying that it does give you an opportunity for a breather.
I really think the music now for me is a hell of a lot better than it use to be!!
Classic rock room is much the same as its always been, you cant change classic rock but i reckon since splitting up with the other half and going to corp everyweek the hardside is a 1000 times better than it use to be.
Remember big fat ugly kev who would only play papa roach and limp bizkit? That what bad enough but he would talk when the last thing you want to hear is his voice!!
Then there is syn, which for me i prefer going to listen than dancing. Plus its not as hot as the other rooms, so thats where i mainly top up with the carling!
Where are all these so called youngsters??? Are you telling me the likes of kingdom do not have underage people who slip through the net??
There are loads of people of all ages who slag corp off and vow never to go again which is a load of rubbish!! Its not only the best but its also the only rock club of its size in the area.
What would everyone want to do travel to Manchester or Nottingham???
I have never had any issues with bouncers, though my opinion is the only people who do brings trouble to themselves and the bar staff could do with putting a smile on their faces!!
I think we are lucky in Sheffield to have the corp. The older people, mainly older then me, should realise the old corp will never return and rebels is dead.
Keep rocking sheffield :headbang:
Kensnroses 20-06-2005, 10:48 AM Yeah!!!!!! I'm with you on all counts... Corp is an assett to the Sheffield Rock/Metal scene. What else do we have? The Leadmill? Hmmmmm..... Rock City is only 45 mins away on the train, but in my humble opinion, Rock City sucks! Then there's Jilly's and Satan's Hollow in Manchester... they're ok, but Manchester's further away and a bitch to get stuck in if you dont know anybody. I stand by my convictions that Corp is number 1 of the clubs I've been to in my 28 years of life, and Krazy House, Liverpool comes a close 2nd (although, I haven't been for a few years now). Well done Corp, and keep up the good work!!!!!
Pauline BHG 20-06-2005, 02:18 PM I love Corp, but having recently been to Rock City to see VAIN, then stayed for the club after, I'm not sure if Corp beats it.....
Both great clubs though ! Hmm - anyone know if i could get back from RockCity to Shef at 3am on a sunday morning ?
Cyclone 20-06-2005, 02:24 PM I used to be a regular, but I don't rate the new venue, it's not a patch on the old one. And maybe i'm getting older, 11 years and still going to corp every week would be getting a bit sad.

There *used* to be a coach back from Nottingham about 3:15 to Shef- it was the night coach from London - I spent many an hour on Nottingham coach station waiting for it in the late 80s/early 90s...
robbie 20-06-2005, 07:34 PM every time I go downstairs in the main room on Friday the music is woeful. The indie room is ok ish though.
Pauline BHG 20-06-2005, 08:58 PM I've only ever been on a Saturday, i've not even got a scooby-doo what else is on !! I must investigate....
Ta for the info on the Notts bus - I might look into that. A few good bands playing there on Saturdays up to the end of the year - Skidrow, Dogs Damour, Vince Neil and Love/Hate.... :)

I've never been to Corp (touch wood) but have frequented Rock City a number of times..
From what I hear, I know where I'd choose :D
probedb 21-06-2005, 05:15 PM I only ever go to Corp on a Saturday for Hardside which is really good in my opinion! Stocky plays quite a good selection and will happily play very heavy stuff.
I agree about Friday, full of far too many youngsters and not really great if you like heavier stuff.
The small room on Mondays is good though. Don't get to it much seeing as how I work and live in Chesterfield :)
Joelc 21-06-2005, 05:42 PM Corp is ok, but ok at best, too many under aged kids, and its bloody obvious they are under age, and its not just a few, its loads of them. I enjoy corp when i go, maybe we should have a sf corp night :D, as long as we go on a night without lots of kids running about.

That would be cool ! I could do wi meeting a few more like minded people here. Saturdays aren't THAT young - we can join the wrinkly rockers in the classic rock room :D
<am I a wrinkly rocker ?? Maybe......> ;)
tomato 21-06-2005, 07:21 PM My astrologist showed me some pictures of the old corp the other day. Man that club looked good. Scummy in all the right areas. Old and 70s. A diner? A skateboard ramp?
Maybe there is more to it than I know, but surely it has to be one of the worst decisions ever to move to Dingeville Factoryland.
WallBuilder 21-06-2005, 11:58 PM I'm sure a few of my friends are going to LOVE being referred to as 'wrinkly rockers' even though they have been round and about since about 1980 and in some cases even earlier.
It is interesting to note that although other musical types come and go rock music has been around since the early 70's , so just remember in ten years or so the youngsters that you now hate will be looking at you and thinking 'wrinkly rocker'

that's Even worse. I hate older rock but no one seems To cater for 90's rock :loopy:
goldenfleece 24-06-2005, 01:43 PM this is a corporation thread that has NOT been removed...
Scotty_78 24-06-2005, 01:47 PM At least half of the people in there on an average night are underage kids.
Think how much their profits would drop if they didn't have the kids in there? So in short, unless the authorities get involved not a dam thing will get done about it.
goldenfleece 24-06-2005, 01:48 PM Well said....lets see if Mr Moderator takes offence at this thread now shall we????? For Gods sake man, this is common knoweldge all over the clubbing fraternity in Sheffield adn the population as a whole....this forum should be about THE TRUTH!!!

Agreed. The police need to take a good look at the conduct of the bouncers AND the age of the clientele. All the underage drinkers from Devonshire Green go in there!
Scotty_78 24-06-2005, 01:51 PM I'm not sure how the politics of all this work but the police must know about the problem. Why has nothing been done?
goldenfleece 24-06-2005, 01:54 PM Wait for it....this thread will be removed ANY SECOND NOW
pussycat 24-06-2005, 02:10 PM I went to Corp on a Friday a few weeks back and they were being really strict with ID's on the door (although they didn't ask us because we are obviously old... ).
But it still seemed to be full of kids inside, so either there's a lot of fake ID's going around, or 18 year olds are looking and acting younger these days...or I'm getting old.
Still had a great time though - I love the indie room, but also watching a big, bad mosher-type bloke bopping away to "Johnny B Good" was a memory I shall treasure! :D
Does anyone else ALWAYS end up with a throat infection after they've been there? :suspect: And no, I wasn't snogging random young men (unfortunately).

goldenfleece 24-06-2005, 02:47 PM I guess you mean this....from terms of use
"Users shall not post or transmit through this site any material which violates or infringes in any way upon the rights of others, which is unlawful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, vulgar, obscene, profane or otherwise objectionable, which encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability or otherwise violate any law."
Where does this leave free speech I wonder
xafier 24-06-2005, 02:51 PM I'm still not getting all these people that hop onto the slag Corporation bandwagon even though they've probably never been...
"oh I heard from a mate of a mate that there was a 15yr old in Corp last night!"
ok, sure there are underage people there, 17, maybe 16... but you cant exactly say that every other club and pub in sheffield DOESN'T serve underage people or let them in...
face it, there is and always will be fake ID flying around, its usually the NUS passes form colleges and 6th forms that are used... maybe they should stick to driving license only?
anyways, personally I'm only into Saturdays now, they've changed the music a lot over the last few years I've been going (since i was 17... omg i went underage! :o) and now mondays and fridays just aint as good as they used to be :(
stick to saturdays its always good generally... and I'm up for a Corp night out meet type thing :)
*Turbo* 24-06-2005, 05:03 PM Well said xafier.
Goldenfleece, get used to it your banned, so stop moaning about the place. If it has no impact on your life then why have a dig everytime somone else moans about the place?
I still enjoy corp, and yes i'm overage. :headbang:
Musey 24-06-2005, 05:41 PM I'm over age by a wee bit (lol ok so a fair bit) and go to the Corp pretty often. Sometimes there are some youngish looking characters around but in all honesty I just put that down to me getting older.

Exactly. There are a fair few underage people in there but they are indistinguishable from the 18/19 year olds. And from personal experience, these days on Fridays at least most people are 17 or over.
crazyperson 26-06-2005, 08:29 PM i personally think that the corporation is a great club, but why cant all the little kids go to k-corp...its there so they dont come into the older ones!

*I* used the term *wrinkly rocker* in a jokey manner - the wrinkly rockers i refer to are about my age and maybe a year or 2 older !!
I also said nowt about hating *youngsters* ????
Confused ? I am !! Ne'er mind... I like Corp, I like old and young, and I personnaly call the classic rock room the wrinkly rocker room.....

I'm random but not a young man anymore (23 is old by corp standards now) that's probably why I never see you :D
hmmmm I also get a throat infection but i hope it's not from snogging young random girls :o although I do stick to the classic rock room so it could be the 'older generation' that is giving me this ;)
*Turbo* 27-06-2005, 12:38 AM Just to let you know, the police did visit corp on saturday. they spent a few minutes in hardside then went.
as far as i know they must of been happy with the age group there.

I am sorry I didn't mean for my post to say that it was you that 'hated' youngsters but rather the majority of the posts where people have been complaining and grumbling about the younger customers just made me think that they did..
I'm sure none of my friends would be really annoyed at being called 'wrinkly rockerrs' in fact if they were honest they'd agree the term was quite apt, I'll have to ttry it out and see.
Pauline BHG 27-06-2005, 09:59 AM Hehehehe you can blame me for the term *wrinkly rocker* if they don't like it ;)

What - despite Corporation having what might possibly be the Uk's largest logo painted down one entire side of the building?
;)
Its just behind the Devonshire Cat which in turn is on the block behind the Forum
mr_chris 03-07-2005, 11:17 PM I miss old Corporation.
I started going around 1998 and it was fantastic as it was a place I could go to escape and fade into the background. I was still recovering from school and I wanted to avoid the places I knew people from All Saints would be.
It was also a place where everyone was friendly as the rock scene was just about to explode and there were few enough people for everyone to know everyone else. If you were new, people would talk to you!
The otherside bar sold beer for £1.50 a bottle and was a great place to relax and meet friends beforehand. It also played decent music!
There were regularly more guys in the girls' toilets than guys as they were nicer and people would just go in there to chat. There were sofas in the corridors - which were always full of girls showing off their new piercings (I used to call it nipple alley) and random people who'd just wandered in....
The chillout room was there for people to... get to know each other... So to speak.
Saturdays had people with more hair than is natural in one room and proper hardcore punks in the other. Scared the life outta me, but I loved it. Mondays were dead and Fridays were heaving.
And to top it all off, "Rollin" by Limp Bizkit was a floor filler.
New Corp just never feels as good, but I suppose if corp ever moves again the current 18 year olds will reminisce about "their" corp and how the new one just doesn't feel right.
Corp now just seems like a place to be seen. There are a few underage people there (that's because I know who they are!) but it's not overrun. There seemed to be a lot more at one point, but Saturdays (when I go) seems to cater more to the late 20s crowd, so I still feel young!
Corp as I remember it won't be back, but the new one's ok. Much better than what I had at Uni... even if I did help run that!
robbie 03-07-2005, 11:22 PM when you say Saturday night is for late 20's what kind of music do they play :suspect:
I always thought that it was older rock/metal (Megadeth, Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, AC/DC etc etc) and therefore have given it a wide berth.
Classic Rock 04-07-2005, 03:54 PM If you head down to the Corp on a Saturday be sure to pop into Cha Chas first. I DJ down there, it's only round the corner and I play all the Classic Rock Killer music (70s/80s/90s rock), plus you can get cheapish Corp tickets there - cheaper than paying the full price on the door.

There's a mix in the main downstairs room. It can go from Disturbed to Aerosmith in about 3 songs... Which is unsettling! The Goff room goes from trad goth to EBM and randomness and back again whilst the upstairs room is just...
...Loud. And quite hardcore. Still, no punk and no minimoshers, so I'm quite happy. Not that I don't like punk, it's all the teenagers that seem to hijack it - safety pins are a privilege not a right!
I love the corp on a saturday night when ever there's no work for sunday morning am there long live the corp. xx
foxycoxy 08-07-2005, 01:18 PM I have to agree with Mr Chris. i loved the old corp and the new corp is just not the same. I went to the old corp every week, i went on the opening night and on the very last night (the Arches was rubbish). At one point i was going three times a week. i have such fond memories and met loads of people.
i beleive i could be termed as a "regular" and from what i have heard since i was a very familiar face there.
i even met my husband to be there!! It's sucha shame we cant revisit the place we met.
it was too bloody hot in the summer and we were scared of sitting on the upholstery but we all loved it.
i will have to stop thinking about it, but i do hope to be seen around the new corp more often, i hope to see someof you there too.
MTheo 08-07-2005, 10:52 PM ive only been on a few gig nites. my friends were always into either no music or dance, rnb ....basically anything but rock!
and standing their like billy no mates aint much fun!...especially when you dont drink or dance haha
seems like someones dingy basement with a lick of paint and posters. but i dont fink that matters if you like the music...i guess rock wouldnt seem rock if it wasent dark, loud, jeans, leather, 15 year old girls obsessed with HIM and 38year old men trying to cling to their hair waiting for run to the hills to come on :D
Pauline BHG 08-07-2005, 11:41 PM There is some TOP quality air guitar going on there, AND... summat i'd never seen before I moved here - air microphone !!! :o
Fantastic stuff :D

Rockerman 11-07-2005, 11:36 PM Just to read all the posts on what was good about the corp and what aint i've been there from day 1 (obviously gone home in between ha ha )
The old corp was a better venue except for the stage, seeing bands at the new corp is so cool.
i miss the diner from the old corp it was a cool place to hang (unlike new corp hole in the wall)
as for wrinkly rocker at what age is that?
I'm a the classic rock variety myself and for a while corp got a bit predictable same songs same order same faces but now it just seems like everyone there are all buddies and it's cool
*Turbo* 12-07-2005, 12:26 AM It looks like hardside though has taken a backward step over the weekend.
DJ Stocky has been sacked and replaced with DJ "I want to be in Dukes of Harzzard" Chippy has made an unwelcome return!!!
Check out corp message board. A lot of very unhappy people.
SafetyPin 04-08-2005, 11:00 AM I've not been in ages. People keep telling me it's not as good as it used to be, so I don't bother! :)
I'd go to Leeds/Liverpool/Manchester but the transport opportunities are somewhat limited as I've not got my own car and don't have any friends there I can crash with...
ickle 04-08-2005, 05:01 PM I used to like going to the Cockpit and Star in Leeds. Had some brilliant nights there. That's when I lived in Harrogate so we used to get a taxi back and it worked out ok.
I tend to go to Corp on a monday as you gotta love the prices and I can't say I've ever had a bad night there.
probedb 04-08-2005, 05:45 PM I can start going again regularly in a few weeks when I move to Shef :) Not been for soooo long.

Well, since that post it turns it he was not sacked but suggested the room changes a bit and some people (including stocky) thought he had been sacked. The powers that be now want two DJ's instead of one. Apparently he still working but hasn't for last few weeks due to commitments with his band.
It was suggested at the time Chippy had been brought in to replace him but he got so much abuse from corporation message board he's decided against it. The message board had to be removed due to the abuse!!! Reason for abuse was everyone considered him to be a back stabber. Stocky said this too, and the fact he play's rubbish music all the time!!
Dont know when Stocky will be back but last couple of weeks Jim and Pete(?) have been filling in.
I take it your still banned GoldenFleece?

planetceza 04-08-2005, 07:50 PM I used to go to the old corporation . It was the best club LAYOUT i have ever seen.....two big music rooms skate ramp for anyone to use...chillout room for weed smoking and trying to find out what a woman was all about! and a few wacky corridors connecting it and oh playstaions!!!! Great times i was there on the last ever club night it got trashed and everyone was stealing things as memorabillia!!!!!! Bit too old for it now......shame

been going to other towns for my club fix over the last year...Manchester, Hull and Lincoln to be precise......interesting rock scenes over there, very different..........I simply adore Sugarcubes in Lincoln and Spiders in Hull......well worth a trip over...
