Oh dear, that is sad news. I only met him a few times on some walks & will remeber him with fondnedss for his constant chit-chat which verged on droning on, & his mischievous way of 'stirring' things. Best wishes to all his family & friends.

I'd like to add my condolences too, and just say what a pleasure it was to have known Albert, who was a real charachter, and about as knowlegable a person as I've ever met. I know we had our differences, and he could be a subborn old cuss at times, but the memories and anecdotes he's left us all with in this group will last a long time, and that's how I'd like him to be remembered.
Sincerest best wishes to his wife and family.

What sad news, I only met Albert a couple of times but he did seem like quite a character. My condolences to his family at this sad time.

I'm so sorry to hear this... I never had the chance to meet him, but he sent me lots of information about my grandfather's walking activities, which I was so grateful for.

My condolences to his family.

RIP x

Albert was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. I will always remember on one walk he kept forgetting my name, so just kept calling me "lady". If he only knew.
My condolences go out to all his family.

I remember him thinking I was married to your cousin :)

Albert always had a cheeky story or two to tell and some of them were absolute gems. One which springs quickly to mind was about a local charachter to him, a lady of loose morals who was known as 'yo-yo knickers'. No enlightment neccesary for this tale I think.
Another memory of him is one day, in the middle if giving us all a history lesson on the Tinsley canal about the industry and so on, he drops out of nowhere "of course they used to make porn in that canal barge over there you know, everybody knew what was happening".
Anybody got any more gems?

:hihi: I'd forgotten that! He told me off for not providing you with enough packing-up on a walk. Daft owd bugger!

He also announced on one walk that if you were ever feeling constipated, you should choose a walk with steep downhill sections "bound to get things moving".

Then there was the time when he came and asked Billysmum and me if Nooka was poor. Looking perplexed, we said we didn't think she was, but why?
"Well" he says, "I can't help but notice each week that she doesn't wear walking boots, and I was going to offer to buy her some".
Now that sums Albert up.......totally out of touch, but genorous to a fault, especially when you consider he wasn't exactly rolling in money himself.

Ah, bless him!!!!!

I don't have any anecdotes (as such!!!! ) - but when he sent me all the stuff about my grandad, he had the title of the e-mail as "Grandad W" and the first line read..

"Always assuming Grandma W doesn't have a secret!!!"

Which I found quite amusing!!!! :)

Albert was a Walking Encyclopedia, a real character with tremendous love and respect for the countryside and the people he met on his walks. Yorkshire and Derbyshire have lost a great friend and a Gentleman.
