Over quota (in reply to RCPT TO command)
....................was message from sender when trying to 'mail me.
Is this really 'over quota' ????? am I using too much???? Prob up to 10/day.
Ideas appreciated
THANKS!!!!!!
Shouldn't really matter how many you send/receive as they are usually stored on your computer, unless you're leaving a copy on the server? I think default behaviour is not to do this, but I haven't used Outlook Express for a long time!
I don't really hang onto the old mails - delete them fairly soon and empty deleted folder every few weeks.
Thanks

Have you deleted all your emails from your sent email folder ?
This error message sometimes means that the message is too big to be received by a recipient.
Outlook and Outlook Express default to clearing the files on the server for POP3 use, but I'm just wondering are you using Outlook Express to access a Web Based mail service?
If so, it's possible that there may be a difference there and that your received mails are still in the web based system.
Alternatively, it is possible that someone has sent you a stinkingly huge mailbomb type message that has jammed in your mailbox.

I tried to check using spare PC.
It wanted to download all incoming messages since FEB, which perhaps significantly totalled 1000.
Any break or interruption meant starting again!!!! Same 1000!!
I eventually got to 16 June's mails, and there were no more to download, as was the case on my PC.
I suspect all messages since THURS bounced back to sender, as was the case on my tests.
All messages on the spare were marked as read and deleted fully, but I was mystified why when starting again it offered to download the same 1000 'permanently deleted' first time.
I have not tested the spare since last night.
I emailed Wanadoo who offered various answers to FAQs.
But overnight their reply was sent to my troublesome PC or account!!!!
Job mysteriously sorted and tests OK!
Thanks for your help, just now wondering what the trouble was in the first place!

Having "leave a copy of message on server" ticked in Outlook Express would cause the exact problem you've described.
Hmm, found that ticked in account properties.
Does this mean that everything (and his dog) is repeated on another PC?
Or does it relate to the lack of incoming mail ?
Thanks!!
If you pick up e-mail from 2 different computers then you would probably need to have that option ticked. However, you should also tick "remove from server after X days". Make the "X" something reasonable like 1 or 2 weeks. If you don't pick up mail from more than one computer then I should just untick it altogether.
With that option ticked your client doesn't delete the e-mails on the remote server when it has finished downloading them. ISPs typically place a limit on the size of your inbox (usually somewhere around the 20mb mark), because your client wasn't deleting old mail, your inbox (on the server) was full and so new mail was getting deleted.
Thanks 'Punk'
Guess what....I understood you.
I have kept it ticked just in case I need the spare PC, but I have set the days to 60......being a bit cautious!!
It appears that exactly 1000 messages were saved by the ISP and then they spit their dummy out.
Thanks very much!!!
