Hi, my son is 15 and rather clumsy:rolleyes: Anyway, he crashed into something last week and knocked his shin bone. He didn't even mention it to me, so I guess it didn't bother him that much. Today, he has whacked it again in the same place, and it really hurt this time, so he pointed it out to me. There is no obvious visual damage - his skin is intact and I can see no bruising, but he has a crater in the bone, and a small lump to one side of it.

Does he need to be seen at the hospital? Obviously, if I am not happy I shall be taking him anyway, but just wondered if anybody could advise me?

Thanks:help:

it sounds like he has chipped the bone. i am no expert but i would get it xrayed just to make sure.

you'd be better off ringing NHS direct than asking the 'experts' on here (particularly as no professional would give advice in this fashion on pain of losing their job ;) )

If I were you I'd bypass NHS 'redirect' and just go straight to the Hallamshire Minor Injuries clinic.

Thanks for the replies. I rang NHS Direct, and they advised to give painkillers and monitor the situation. In the end we decided to run him up for an x-ray. Thankfully he has just damaged the muscle overlying the bone, and not damaged the bone at all.

Maybe I'll get him a bubble-wrap suit!:hihi:

Cheers.
