View Full Version : Hangovers-Anyone else noticed a change as you get older?
Having yet another hangover today. Its really odd how the "in pain and dying" hangovers of my youth have been replaced by zombiefication. I now spend my hangovers doing absolutely nothing without the brain capacity to attempt to do anything even remotely complicated.
Hense, another day pretty much wasted.
anyone else get htese really annoying hangovers?
glitterbug 18-06-2005, 20:12 yes robbie, i look forward to weekends all week, get really giddy cause i'm off on Saturday, have too much on Friday night and completely waste it. I am now on my way to wasting Sunday as well..................... ooooooooooh i'll never learn!

I'm young and this is the only hangover type I've ever suffered. I count myself lucky!
my hangovers never seem to be that bad... usually my head and tummy are a little tender... once i've guzzled some water and gobbled a nice bacon butty I'm generally right as rain... sometimes it takes a little while to kick in though...
seriously, water and greasy food are the only way to cure a hangover!
A.B.Yaffle 18-06-2005, 21:14 I have only started to get hangovers now I'm getting older. I never used to get them, no matter how much I had to drink.
I seem to get drunk quicker now as well... probably due to slowing down of metabalism. Anyway, I have stopped drinking as of last week, after having my nipple bitten off by the cat when I fell down stairs carrying him after getting back from the pub.

melthebell 18-06-2005, 21:52 YES
i used to get ****** all day everyday...........then i started getting 2 day hangovers............i dont drink enough to get really really ****** now, the hangovers are really crap :(
i normally have 2-4 cans / pints, just enough to get nicely merry :)
SpiderPete 18-06-2005, 23:27 I end up in zombiefication now .... and thats since I got older.
I went out last Thursday and was at work Friday , not a good thing.
I always drink loads of water when I come home to ease it a bit.
My hangovers are getting worse! It really affects my stomach now so I have to be carefull how much I drink, when I was younger I just felt tired and dehydrated.
I'm never ill at night, just the morning when I can't even keep resolve or water down until about 2pm. The whole day is ruined because I can't leave the house as I feel too sick.
Put it his way it's stopped me getting hammered anymore as I feel so bad the next day!

if you are thinking this is the way xafier, you seriously are not drinking enough.
now when i get a proper hangover, i cant do anything the next day, and sometimes it goes on to the day after that, depending on if i have had a lot of shots/stella.
Hang-overs are caused by all the bad stuff people put into alcohol to make it taste nice.
When in Africa and the Mddle-East, most alcohol is home distilled - - various names, Flash - Siddique - White Lightening etc.
By being careful what you mix it with (Its 200 proof, or 100%) there is no hangover!
But ooooooh - - the depression.
On the very rare occasions I do drink enough nowadays to get hung over, I'd agree - it's the zombie one. Oh, and I sometimes sweat and run hot whilst sleeping it off.
It must be 20 years since I had a head banging, vomit producing, stop that fly walking too noisliy sort of hangover.

20 years?
Don't you mean 20 days? :hihi:
Sunday? I am working on my next "None Hang-Over".
Cooking lunch, a glass of Scotch by the cooker. Fathers Day? You must be joking. Not a card in sight, and even less chance of a phone call.
On a day like today, Temperature wise, it will take a few Re-Hydration sips to complete the full Monty.
Roast, three veg, Yorkshire pudding that looks like a souffle.
About 3/4 of a litre should see it alright
The meal will soak it all up, and no doubt I'll be rareing to go tomorrow.

The two symptoms are related: The dehydration is because it takes several molecules of water to digest one molecule of alcohol, and lots more to wash the by-products through your kidneys, hence the surprising result that you actually pee a lot more than you drink. The vomiting is because you are left with insufficient water to digest the food in your stomach, which lies there until it becomes poisonous, then you throw up. The other effect of dehydration is the hangover - water is taken from your brain to the detriment of mental functions and although the brain itself can't feel pain, it moves around more than it should in its dried-out state causing trauma to the surrounding blood vessels. Also, the shrinking of those blood vessels due to being deprived of fluid, increases the pressure, hence the headache.
Yodameister 19-06-2005, 11:40 I've had three phases.
First of all I never got hangovers at all until I was about 19.
Then I got really bad ahngovers when I could do hardly anything all day.
Now I just generally feel tired but I can do stuff, even a full day of work.
Probably more related to my drinking habits at those different ages though than any physiological changes I reckon.
Wot? Vomit up me sunday dinner??
Brought up in a hard school, Wot goes down - stays down.
melthebell 19-06-2005, 18:41 i barely ever throw up too, whether hung over or feeling really ill, i just wont be sick, mainly cos i absolutely hate it.
