It looks like the end could be fast approaching for Cassette tapes. Their sales are in a continuous downward spiral and it is believed that the era of the cassette will be coming to an end.

They have been around for around 40 years, which is quite a good innings.

I used to back up all my old 33's on these and still have some somewhere. The C90's were my preferred choice as the C60's didn't hold enough and the C120 were too unreliable, always chewing up.

Home taping never did kill music, did it?

Nor will downloading or I-pods.

I used cassette tapes when I was a kid to tape the charts, then my albums, then to make compilations of my favourite albums.
At no time did I consider a cassette copy to be equal to a record because they faded over time and didn't sound as good. When I started driving, I used cassette tapes to listen to in the car, but now with a CD player available everywhere, there is now very little reason to use cassette.

Last year I did a language course and we had to use cassettes to record our presentations and listening exams at college, this is the first time I have had to use cassettes for about 4 years, and what a drag they were..

cassettes were never good in the first place... their only real use was for cars and walkmans! obviously taking LP's around with you and a portable LP player was never really an option :hihi:

MP3 players may well kill out CD's eventually though, CD sales are still dropping as far as I'm aware... you get near perfect CD quality with 192kbps Ogg Vorbis files... which gives a LOT of room to fill up a CD with, nevermind a 20/40/60Gb media player!

the number of CD's I buy slows down every year I think... although I must admit this year I've baught an awful lot due to a couple of online sales... but when you've got Led Zepplin and Joe Satriani CD's for dirt cheap you cant NOT buying them! :D

I did a course through work which was delivered on cassettes. We actually struggled to find a cassette player - I had to borrow one from my dad

As soon as we bought a CD separate unit in 1999, all of our audio tapes were ditched, most of the music we bought on tape, we just bought again on CD.

I still have a tape unit wired up to my AVR, but rarely use it.

However, since my JVC hi-fi packed up in 2003, I bought separates, and bought a tape one just incase it was ever needed.

GOOD

i have loads........but trying to buy or rip all my old tapes onto mp3 / cd as i hate playing tapes now.......i only really play vinyl or cd or mp3 now.
i do still have a technics tape deck with my other hifi seperates, but its never plugged in these days, too few plugs as i have my amp, mixer and 2 record decks plugged in all the time.........i dont even have a cd player i play mp3s off cd on my standalone dvd player under the telly which is plugged into the mixers line socket.
i might get a tape player that you slot into your puter like you would a cd drive / hard drive cos it would make ripping tapes to mp3 a damn site easier and better quality than plugging something into the line in socket on the pc.........specially as my hifi and puter are both in seperate rooms.

maybe we should opt for mini-disk to take over from cassette.
