View Full Version : Driving simulator business - feedback please!
Ellerington 29-01-2009, 10:09 Hi
I'm looking to start my own business and would really appreciate some feedback on my idea. The company is called Drive to Win and we plan to run driving simulator based competitions.
I've compiled a very brief questionnaire (only 10 questions) and would really appreciate it if a few members of the forum could complete it to give me a better idea of the way forward. Check out the questionnaire here:

I'm trying to get a feel for how the general public would respond, so please be as honest as possible. If anyone's seen anything like this before or would like to find out more, please feel free to get in touch.
Thanks!
filled it out for ya, looks good if your going to be having anything like the f1 car lol.. will you be holding leagues and stuff like that? multiple smaller cars so many people can race and have a laugh at the same time? would be cool!
Ellerington 29-01-2009, 10:48 Thanks for your feedback Tommy, really appreciated. We're not sure exactly how the competitions will be set up yet - hence the questionnaire - but your comments will definitely be taken into consideration.
Glad you like the idea - I'll add your email address to our mailing list and let you know when things kick off!
excellent, ill look forward to it! :)
Hi, I've filled out your questionnaire. I think it's a great business idea and wish you loads of luck with it!

Here's my answer to Q9:
An off-road simulator variation where passengers (wives, kids, disabled, etc, who wouldn't otherwise participate) can also enjoy taking part.
Obviously the other concept is to have at least two machines so people can race...
Ellerington 29-01-2009, 12:31 Thanks Josie. Really appreciate your encouragement & your time.
Ellerington 29-01-2009, 14:49 Rarebit - thanks for raising the important point re: children and disabled people. This is certainly something that will be taken into consideration.
sharpend 29-01-2009, 15:24 Hi, couple of points - necessary but obvious question -
How would you make any money out of this bearing in mind shopping centres and the like are likely to want YOU to bear the insurance, trip hazard h&S etc etc and secondly I *think* your survey may be *slightly* skewed.
I wouldn't pay for this type of thing because I'n not interested in car racing but there is no option for "nil" - its just <£5
mmm, £1 / £2 was what I thought.
It reminds me of that Tiff Needle advert the other year, ring up at a pound at a time for a chance to win a Ferrari, competition ran for a month at a time. Doing the maths, it seems a very good little earner, but quite a few would describe it as a scam (i.e. it's not even a service never mind being manufacturing,. Sorry if that sounds cynical, it's not really meant to be).
I can honestly say I wouldn't be customer, but put a bucking bronco or surf board simulator and i'll make a fool of misen for a quid... Wahey!!!!
Ellerington 29-01-2009, 19:02 Thanks for your points sharpend and rarebit - all taken on board.
Ellerington 30-01-2009, 09:35 If anyone else out there can spare a few minutes to complete the questionnaire, it'd be a great help! Just go to http://www.polldaddy.com/s/9BB578C407EDDB25/
Thanks a lot!
alchresearch 30-01-2009, 11:54 I saw one of these in my local shopping mall over Xmas. It was always empty.
I think these kinds of things were good when home gaming was poor, but nowadays most people have games consoles hooked up to massive screens and projectors. OK, you get to sit in the car, but is it worth a fiver when you can play at home for free.
The only people I can remotely see being into this are groups of teens, who tend to be barred from shopping centres in the first place.
Rethinking, i'd say, i'd be more likely to pay to have fun, but not to enter a competition in which I have virtually zero percent chance of winning. Also whilst watching 'Hustler' last night, it made me rethink that having multiple cars racing against each other is definitely the way to go...
Ellerington 30-01-2009, 16:38 Thanks for your comments alchresearch. I've had quite a lot of people expressing that they would be very interested in having a go, so I'm intrigued to hear that you've seen a similar simulator which was not being used.
Could you tell me any more about the simulator you saw? Was it an F1 simulator? Did it offer any kind of prize? Do you remember how much they were charging?

Locksley 31-01-2009, 19:42 Yes! Me and my have been wanting to see a real driving sim for a long time. I'm presuming you are going to use sim machines but would really love to see the software released on PC. It would be fantastic to make it an MMO too, being able to race your friends, or just drive around with real people on the roads. I wish you the best of luck mate.
unknown_sole 31-01-2009, 19:48 a lot of companies use f1 career challenge available for pc also another game which is unknown of but is very good as well as your sony versions for ps2/3
unknown_sole 01-02-2009, 12:35 out of interest would you think if the price was right people would want to hire one of these for birthday partys ect?? (open to all question)
