PRINCE Andrew is to give a boost to centenary celebrations at the University of Sheffield with a visit to the campus next Wednesday.
The prince is in the city in his role as a UK Special Representative for International Trade, and will be looking at some of the latest investment developments which are ready for overseas markets.
These will include software for sport, cutting edge DVD technology and a new system for securing industrial loads. At the university he will look at the work of SportsPulse, a collaboration between Hallam and Sheffield.
The consortium, which also includes business organisations and key regional sport-based companies, works on new products with manufacturer HD Sports Ltd.
The aim is to develop the sports industry sector in South Yorkshire as a way of stimulating economic growth and regeneration.
The Duke of York will view a number of exhibitions and will see, among other things, a demonstration of innovative lifestyle management software, and the laser scanning of a cyclist on a bike to generate accurate 3D digital models. The prince will be visiting the University of Sheffield's Department of Mechanical Engineering, and its Sports Engineering Research Group, which is also the current SportsPulse HQ.
He will see exhibitions and practical demonstrations showing how South Yorkshire is becoming internationally renowned for the high quality of its sports engineering and sport-related businesses.
Dr Steve Haake, director of SportsPulse, said: "We are thrilled to welcome the Duke of York to the University of Sheffield. I am sure he will be interested to know more about the way the city, the universities and local businesses are working together to develop a world-class and economically significant sports industry cluster."
Earlier the Prince will be at the Zoo Digital Group, an expanding technology and games publishing company.
:D Who's going to see him hands up?
