coz I got bombarded with calls from an irritating company in Manchester about phone sales

Was that today? About 2 I got my first ever cold calling sales call on my mobile... from a phone sales company in Namchester.

Gave 'em a right gob full...

Easy way to stop that, don't give out your mobile number on web forms etc unless you absolutely HAVE to...

Big conclusion to jump to. Never have given my number out, never will do, which was kinda why I gave them the gob full. They've got to be using one of them nasty dialler programs, sods.

You should try running your business from your mobile - every day people trying to sell me advertising and calendars, grrrrrr......

You can have your phone number de-registered so you don't get nusance calls. In the three years since I did it I've had maybe 5 pestering calls. B4 that I screened every call with answerphone I was so fed up with them. Plus if a company does ring you subsequently they can get fined.

Although the rules only apply for UK based companies. Anyone phoning from an abroad call centre can still contact you.

Apparently so, but I've never had a single call from abroad, had two from a travel agent in Doncaster and possibly a couple of others in several years of opting out. Even if it doesn't apply it seems to work.
My girlfriend on the other hand finally got a phoneline in her house recently as part of a Internet access deal, she has a good mobile deal and never uses landline and only a handful of people know it. Yet her answerphone fills up with sales crap and ironically it's often prerecorded messages talking to answerphone. She keeps meaning to TPS but......

I've used to not have my numbe in may places and got loads of calls from sales types. Now I've registered mobiles, landlines and fax numbers with the TPS I don't get anything bar the odd text selling phones, and my numbers are all over the web, submitted to loads of sites and anywhere else I could get them.
